A year of celebration - Montessori School of Greater Hartford

2014–15 ANNUAL REPORT
A year of
celebration
FROM OUR HEAD OF SCHOOL
Dear Families and
Friends,
The stars aligned for MSGH in this, our 50th
year serving the children of Greater Hartford.
So many of our dreams have come to fruition and
your support of and commitment to our school
has made it all possible. In this anniversary
year, we purchased our long-dreamed for first
home, started our wonderful new Adolescent
program on picturesque Millstream farm in New
Hartford, partnered with Charter Oak Cultural
Arts Center to share our child development
expertise with the broader community and we
sponsored 5 staff members for teacher training.
All the while we continued to provide the best in
authentic Montessori for our children.
I sincerely hope that you realize the impact you
have made on our community of children and
educators. You have influenced each and every
one of our children’s future, supporting their
transformation into the global citizens they will
become.
You have nurtured some very special people
with your gifts supporting teacher training. You
enhanced their livelihoods and the livelihoods
of their families and nurtured their ability to
positively impact the lives of our children.
From my heart, thank you, you make everything
possible.
Sincerely,
Úna Barry

From the President of the board
Dear Friends,
The 2014-2015 school year was
one of many milestones! After
many years of diligently going
through every possibility within
our area, we became owners of
our space for the first time in
our history in October. We
also added a middle school
program this year with all
seven of our 2013-2014 upper
elementary graduates attending.
We celebrated our 50th year
in operation with several
celebrations and community
events and reconnected with
many alumni students, parents,
and teachers. Our community
joined the celebration by
graciously contributing to the
school through volunteer efforts,
the annual fund, and the gala.
We had our best year in fund
raising with a broad level of
support. Thank you to everyone
for their contributions!
While 2014-2015 marked many
milestones, they reflected the
effort put in over several years by
the teachers, the administration,
current and past families, and past
and current boards. We are blessed
by an administration and staff
that provide a superb Montessori
education to our children and
their families. This continues to
be our core strength and we are
constantly sharpening our skills in
this area. The diversity of the school
community is also a distinctive
attribute of MSGH and both the

board and administration are committed to maintaining and
improving it. We appreciate the commitment made by families to
share their children with us and we are doing our best to balance
affordability while maintaining excellent programming.
The milestones we reached last year also means we are starting new
journeys: deciding what enhancements are most appropriate for
our space, building our middle school program, and capitalizing
on the energy of the 50th anniversary to broaden the development
support we get from alumni families and alumni students. We
will be reaching out to the school’s constituencies to prioritize
the plans for the property. These include the possibility of new
construction as enrollment and development continue to grow.
I would like to personally thank all of the people who support
the school through the donation of their time and/or financial
resources. This is the lifeblood of MSGH’s operations. As an
alumni parent who has seen the benefit of Montessori education
on all five of my children as well as being the parent of Alex, who
just completed her second year as a Montessori guide, I have
seen the value that Montessori brings to our children in enabling
them to succeed in our constantly changing world. All of us
are the best ambassadors to spread this style of education and its
implementation at MSGH.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
Dave Tyson

The legacy of your stewardship
Dear Friends,
Through your generous support of our
community, we have accomplished so much.
This year, a dream more than a half a century
in the making came to fruition; for the first
time in our school history, we are homeowners.
In addition to becoming permanent West
Hartford residents, we grew. Adding a Middle
School Program at the Millstream Farm in
New Hartford, Ct. program will provide
our families with an authentic Montessori
education after Elementary. Additionally
this year, we maintained our AMI distinction
at the Toddler, Primary, and Elementary
levels, an achievement unique to us within the
Montessori Schools of Connecticut community
and a rarity among the national Montessori
community. We robustly celebrated our 50th
birthday in our permanent home and with
a flourishing new program. Our success was
accomplished through the stewardship and
generosity of our supporters. You have made
the difference to our community, for the past
50 years and counting...
However, the legacy of your gift remains to
be observed. As our students matriculate into
the world, they will be engaged citizens, who
use their unique talents and passions to create
change in their communities. Our students
will be capable and courageous as they navigate
their own journeys. Your support made this
possible and this is your gift’s true legacy;
giving the world generations of children who
are innovators for good and ambassadors for
peace.
