Wines listed in suggested tasting order.
Lot 228, 2010 Sori Italy Moscato d'Asti
Notes of jasmine, honeysuckle and white peach coming
through on the palate. Beautiful and bright, this is the
perfect apertif. With some well balanced residual sugar
and notable spritz (frizzante), the finish is impeccably
clean and refreshing. In fact, this perfectly balanced
Moscato is quite a pleasure after encountering some of
the dark, syrupy Moscatos that do damage to a good,
crisp Moscato’s reputation.
Lot 256, 2010 Napa Valley Rosé
Lot 250, 2009 Napa Valley Meritage
A lovely, peppery nose of raspberries and plum skin.
Saturated black cherry and fresh acidity provide
structure to this delicious fruit bomb. With great fruit,
acid, and a killer structure, this wine presents Napa in
a great package. Wicked-good. (Available in select TX
Sam’s Club stores.)
Lot 251, 2009 Arroyo Seco Monterey County Syrah
Grenache Mourvedre
Riveting aromas of strawberries, cherry, jolly rancher,
and juicy red fruit. The mid-palate is layered in mouthwatering richness. A sumptuous wine with great acidity
and a lovely crisp finish.
Sweet red fruits overlayed with graphite, espresso, and
blackberry. Fresh, dense, rich and elegant, It’s a superb
take on Rhone blending done California style. This wine
plays great acidity off of sweet fruit for a rich yet playful
blend. (Available in select TX Costco stores.)
Lot 242, 2009 Atlas Peak Chardonnay
Lot 224, 2009 High Valley Lake County Syrah
A radiant and uplifting wine. Aromas are tautly assembled with citrus oil, lime leaf and green apple. Brilliant
minerality is buttressed with concentration and perfect
balance. Vibrant and fulfilling, this wine is of great
caliber for the price. (Available in select TX Costco stores.)
Leaps forth with sensational floral aromas integrated
with black fruit, licorice, roasted meat and cassis. This wine
is finely built with underlying concentration and richness.
With great old-world qualities and incredible acid, this
wine represents great winemaking and the excellent
terroir of High Valley.
Lot 280, 2009 Arroyo Seco Chardonnay
Woven with layers of citrus, white fig, toasty oak and
hazelnut. Opulently styled with waves of fruit essence.
Crisp acidity and beautiful savory notes on the palate
carry through to a long, lingering finish.
Lot 219, 2009 Monte Rosso, Sonoma Valley
Zinfandel
Gold Medal, Orange County International. Classic black
pepper and brilliant berry flavors soar skyward framed
by creamy oak. Aromas of blackberry, cherry and
mulberry underpinned by vanilla and baking spice
dominate the nose. On the palate, juicy berries couple
with firm acidity and soft, supple tannins. Beautiful fruit
with a bold, yet playful finish.
Lot 275, 2010 Mendoza Argentina Malbec Reserva
Ripe cherry and plum on the nose. Full bodied, dark fruit
balanced with a kiss of oak make for a bold, balanced
Malbec. As some Malbecs tend to fall flat and flabby, this
wine presents great acid and fine-grained tannins for a
great mid-palate maintaining a long and luscious finish.
Lot 247, 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
An opulent wine with velvety, silken tannins. Concentrated blackberries intertwine with cherry-infused fruit.
Black licorice, espresso and integrated oak shimmer in
the background of this elegant mountain fruit Cabernet.
With fine-grained tannins and framing acidity, this wine
shows old-world grace and plenty of fruit on the palate.
