Year 7 Poetry
“What am I?”
What’s happening in Visual Arts?
They swim in the sea,
They can look like an old film,
Eating on some fish.
(Joshua Jemmett)
Secret of the deep,
Silent, colourful patterns,
Too many rough legs.
(Isabelle Wright)
King of the jungle,
An orange frightening mane,
A mighty loud roar.
(Breanne Donnelly)
Ten different legs,
Collecting shiny things for show,
Being real scary.
(Bayley Tye)
Has two long fingers,
It picks grubs out of trees,
It has big fat eyes.
(Tala Mepham)
Tail, eats grass,
Cross on its back with fur,
Eeyore, eeyore.
(Jye Conroy)
Answers Josh Jemmett: Penguin
Isabelle Wright: Octopus
Breanna Donnelly: Lion
Bayley Tye: Coconut Crab

During the Easter break, many high school students were busier than you might
think.....
Amy Byrne, Alyssa Hoffman and Molly Campbell -Year 11 Visual Art students participated in the Dobell Drawing School which is an annual event held at the National Art School in Paddington. The three, joined 80 other outstanding visual art students from around the state in this opportunity. It was a chance for students to
participate in four days of drawing workshops with university teachers.
Amy opted for the portrait drawing workshop and said “ I learned a lot, it has
helped my understanding of drawing”.
Molly and Alyssa worked in the figure drawing class and had fun exploring a range
of techniques and learning experiences. The students exhibited their work, along
with others, in a massive drawing exhibition on the final day.
Visual Arts teacher Ms Abi Sparks, who has previously supervised at the Dobell
School, saw it as a wonderful opportunity for the three students, and hopes that
they will be sharing some ideas that they picked up with class mates.
“They were immersed in the visual arts for a week, it was a steep learning curve
and their skills have really come a long way” she said.

I had the opportunity to attend the ANZAC Day
Commemorations last week which highlighted
how fantastic the community's spirit within Glen
Innes is. I was very impressed with how the students presented themselves and the way the
School Captains spoke.
Deputy Principal’s Notice
Now is the time many students and parents
realise they have grown out of their winter
uniform over summer. We understand this
and are allowing all students a week to get
appropriate uniform items. Uniform checks
will begin again Monday May 8th. If you
need assistance or cannot afford to purchase
uniform items, contact Mrs Way in the Deputy Principal's office on 67321322.

Dance
During the week of the 20th to the 24th of
March, a number of our GIHS dancers
travelled to Lake Keepit to participate in
the 2017 Dance Camp.
The dancers learn a number of new routine with the aim of performing as part of
the New England Dance Ensemble at CAPERS later on in the year.
Congratulations to Taylah Grob and Jennifer Mackenzie who were chosen as part
of the Senior Dance Ensemble, as well as
Ryan McCallister who will dance as a
member of The Featured Artist Ensemble. Jennifer Mackenzie also auditioned
and was chosen to be one of the featured dancers at CAPERS in November.
During this term our dancers will also be competing in a number of Dance Eisteddfods, which is the
first time we have done this in a number of years. We wish them all the best in this competition.
In Week 5 of this term, a number of our school dancers will be traveling to Sydney to participate in
further dance workshops to hone their dancing skills and abilities at the prestigious Sydney Dance
Company
