The case for needing a dedicated Lone Worker Device
Understanding a user’s risk profile.
Different lone workers have different needs. Some risk profiles may
not warrant a dedicated lone worker device, leading to a smartphone
application such as Identicom mobile being more suitable. However,
any profile identified as facing risk on a frequent basis should deploy
a dedicated lone worker device as part of their preferred solution.
FULL TIME / FREQUENT RISK
OR ACTIVE ‘MAN DOWN’
ENVIRONMENTAL
(’MAN DOWN’)
All Connexion2 products should be deployed specifically taking account
of the individual risk a lone worker is likely to face and in relation to the
frequency against which risk is faced. This empowers the lone worker,
giving peace of mind to employee and employer alike.
All next generation Identicoms look identical but there are several model
variants giving a mix of comprehensive options for lone worker
protection. The individual demands of a specific job role should

right Identicom for your customers or employees, please see the
‘Product Selector’ section. Risk type is generally environmental or social.
The diagram opposite explains how risk type can be reduced in line with

Identicom’s new ‘Multi-function button’ feature, gives additional
communication benefits to a user operationally, but does not detract
from the primary objective that it is a device range primarily designed to
improve the safety of lone workers (See section entitled ‘New Functions’
for more information on this function).

Core Functions
The next generation Identicom gives a lone worker all of the previous
award-winning functionality through the same core features.
The existing three key functions remain on the rear of the Identicom
device:
Status Check – Get feedback on the strength of the GSM network signal,
GPS coverage and battery life. This function is now incorporated within
a smart LCD display for improved usability. It also includes new
functionality that allows feedback on temperature sensing to support an
audit trail.
Amber Alert *- For use as part of a lone worker’s dynamic risk
assessment. Push to leave regular and current information – i.e. name,
activity being carried out, whereabouts and information about any
apparent risk(s). This audio is typically time and date stamped and saved
by an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) to be accessed in the event of a
subsequent ‘Red Alert’.
Red Alert – Activate an audio link direct to 24/7 Alarm Monitoring for
recording and further escalation in line with what is required given the
parameters of a situation.
The 8 and 9 Series Identicom ranges also benefit from improved
production values, giving great usability and a new take on technical
support and componentry giving easier integration and greater
reliability.
*An Amber Alert is known as a ‘Yellow Alert’ in the USA.

Identicom is now using class-leading SiRF IV GPS Technology unique to
lone worker devices. SiRF IV enables a quicker time to first fix (TTFF) and
can gain a location fix even if GPS signals are weak.
