Membership and Performance Pathway Requirements (Updated 160919)
The Performing Arts Magnet (PAM) is an elected, honorary, academic program for students who choose to earn recognition for
their commitment to studying and participating in the performing arts at Tracy High School (THS). This academy offers an enriched
curriculum, preparing students for further study at post-secondary institutions and entry-level career options in the arts and entertainment
industry. In addition to receiving specialized performing arts instruction, students benefit from frequent performance opportunities,
individual performance coaching, ensemble performance experience, student leadership opportunities, special recognition awards for
accomplishments, special recognition for membership, and most importantly, competitive pre-professional training. Awards are given
at the PAM awards ceremony (and potentially graduation as well) to recognize the participation and achievements of all PAM members
successfully completing each year of membership.
PAM students choose a program pathway: 1) Theatre (Acting Concentration), 2) Theatre (Technical Concentration), 3) Vocal
Music, 4) Instrumental Music (Band Concentration), 5) Instrumental Music (Jazz Concentration), 6) Instrumental Music (Piano
Concentration), and/or 7) Instrumental Music (String Orchestra Concentration). Each pathway may lead to an academic goal of general
membership or even the exclusive achievements of a PAM Certificate or Diploma. ‘General’ and ‘Pathway’ requirements for
Membership Participation, Certificate, and Diploma achievement levels are detailed below. Membership in THS’s PAM is a privilege
that is earned. Valid membership demands consistent commitment to all of these following, detailed requirements.
Students who wish to apply for an Inter- or Intra- District Transfer (limited numbers available per graduating class) to THS through
the PAM may apply and audition for admission (typically in early December for the following year’s admission). Contact the performing
arts department chair ([email protected]) to schedule an audition time. Students attending THS with a transfer for the PAM must be
enrolled in courses for their pathway during all four years.
General Membership Requirements: At all times, all PAM members must…
1. maintain satisfactory academic progress and behavioral standing
for high school graduation.
2. be currently enrolled & participating in a PAM course at THS.
3. be committed to rehearsing & performing with a PAM
ensemble/cast/course at THS.
4. maintain an academic grade of “A” or “B” in all PAM courses.
5. maintain their commitment to the detailed general requirements o
and course requirements of their chosen PAM Pathway(s) &
academic goal(s) (General Membership/Diploma/Certificate
requirements listed below).

6. renew their membership every year by carefully reviewing & o
committing to the current requirements and then signing and
returning a membership contract to their PAM advisor.
7. attend these 3 PAM events every year to receive your award(s):

B. Awards Ceremony (5/17/17@7PM, Tracy Grand Theater)
C. Senior Recital/Performance (3/10/17@TBA, THS Theater)
Every year, all members must attend and review the following
number of Senior Recitals/Performances:
General Membership Senior Recital Requirement: review the
number of senior performances as your high school years
(Freshmen = 1, Sophomore = 2, Junior = 3, Senior = 4).
Certificate Senior Recital Requirements: review three.
Diploma Senior Recital Requirements: reviewing all the senior
performances within your pathway.
Pathway Requirements for Transfer Students, & Certificate/Diploma Candidates
Vocal Music Pathway
Certificate Requirements
Complete the Certificate Research Project and any combination of
three years of course credit, including: Concert Choir, Choral
Company (“Women’s Choir”), and/or Madrigals.
Inter- & Intra-District Transfer Requirement
Four years of credit from Choirs at THS
Instrumental Music Pathway (Band)
Certificate Requirements
Complete the Certificate Research Project and any combination of
three years of course credit, including: Concert Band, Symphonic
Band, Jazz Band, and/or Marching Band.
Inter- & Intra-District Transfer Requirement
Four years of credit from any Band course at THS
Diploma Requirements
Total of five years of credits are required, including:
 Vocal Pathway Certificate Requirements
 At least one year of credit from either Choral Company
(“Women’s Choir”) or Madrigals
 One year of Piano credit is required, but a limit of one year of
Piano credit may be applied.
 Senior Recital
Diploma Requirements
Total of five years of credits are required, including:
 Band Concentration Certificate Requirements
 At least two years of credit from Symphonic Band
 Senior Recital
o One year of credit may be elected from a THS Piano course
OR The Central Valley Youth Symphony OR The Tracy
Community Band.
Instrumental Music Pathway (Jazz)
Certificate Requirement
Complete the Certificate Research Project and three years of
credit from Jazz Band at THS.
Inter- & Intra-District Transfer Requirement
Four years of credit from Jazz Band at THS
Instrumental Music Pathway (Piano)
Certificate Requirements
 Total of three years of credits from: Beginning Piano,
Advanced Piano, Piano Accompanist (Choir), and/or Pianist –
Jazz Band
 One credit limit of Beginning Piano may apply
 Complete the Certificate Research Project
Inter- & Intra-District Transfer Requirements
 Total of four years of credits from: Beginning Piano, Advanced
Piano, Piano Accompanist (Choir), and/or Pianist – Jazz Band
 One credit limit of Beginning Piano may apply.
Theatre Pathway (Acting)
Certificate Requirements
 Total of three years of credits are required from:
o Beginning Drama (limit one year)
o Advanced Drama
o Technical Theatre
 Three years of production participation at THS (min. one/year)
 Complete the Certificate Research Project

 Four years of credit from Theatre courses at THS
 Four years of production participation at THS (min. one/year)
Theatre Pathway (Tech)
Certificate Requirements
 Total of three years of credits are required from:
o Beginning Drama (limit one year)
o Technical Theatre (two years minimum)
 Three years of production participation at THS (min. one/year)
 Complete the Certificate Research Project
Inter- & Intra-District Transfer Requirements
 Four years of credit from Theatre courses at THS
 Four years of production participation at THS (min. one/year)
Instrumental Music Pathway (Orchestra)
Certificate Requirement
Complete the Certificate Research Project and three years of
credit from String Orchestra at THS.

Diploma Requirements
Total of five years of credits are required, including:
 Jazz Concentration Certificate Requirements
 Four years of credit from Jazz Band at THS
 Senior Recital
o One elective credit from a band, orchestra, or piano course.

o Piano Accompanist – Choir

o A limit of two years of credit may be elected from
participation in The Central Valley Youth Symphony (Students at
THS on a transfer, must still complete four years of participation
at THS) OR a limit of one year of credit may be elected from any
other musical course at THS.
Instrumental Music Pathway (Color Guard) (Certificate only)
Complete the Certificate Research Project and three years of credit from Marching Band at THS (participating in color guard in any
combination of the fall and/or winter seasons).
