one are the days
of a week-long
recovery period
after cosmetic
treatments. Now, a new
and improved range of
beauty fixes has women
all over Australia popping
into clinics for within-thehour, budget-friendly
face fresheners.
New research reveals
61 per cent of Australian
women are considering
injectables, and
treatments such as laser,
anti-wrinkle injections,
chemical peels and fillers
are among the top facial
treatment methods.
Here’s everything you
need to know about the
most popular procedures.
THERMAGE
“It’s a non-invasive radio
frequency cosmetic
procedure that helps
smooth, tighten and
contour skin,” explains
Katherine Millar-Shannon.
“It’s perfect for ageing skin
around the jawline and
neck, under the eyes and
around the mouth.”
Thermage, which takes
as little as 60 minutes,
uses heat and energy
to kickstart the body’s
natural cell-renewal
process to boost firmness.
AFTERCARE
“Some clients experience
swelling and redness,”
explains Katherine. “But
generally they’re fine to
return to work straight
after treatment.”
THE RESULTS
You may see results
immediately and it will
continue to improve for up
to six months, when the
new collagen (born from
the treatment) starts to
appear. “It’ll last years,
but yearly follow-up
treatments are advised
for optimal results,”
says Katherine.
DOES IT HURT?
No, it just feels hot. “Each
time the device touches
your skin, you’ll feel a brief
cooling sensation followed
by a deep heating sensation

you want to and
it makes you feel

“My body was in the
best shape ever, so
I felt my face should
reflect the way I was
looking and feeling.
After getting fillers,
I don’t feel I look
different but everyone
I encounter tells me I
look younger and refreshed. I see small differences and am certainly
overjoyed with the treatment. It wasn’t too painful apart from the
actual needle pricks, and I had just minimal bruising, if it all. I feel
more confident and completely satisfied with my results!”

Claire, 47
“I was noticing that my
eyelids were getting a bit
droopy – I’d end up with
mascara above my eyes most
days, as my eyelashes were
touching the top of my lids.
I wanted to feel like I’d had
a bit of a lift but without
surgery and downtime.
The treatment took time to
settle in, so it’s only looking
at it now, a few months down
the track, that I can see a
small difference. I no longer
have mascara all over my
brows, and because it’s
subtle I don’t look like I’ve
‘had something done’!”

Susanne, 60
“After another
milestone birthday,
I wanted a ‘refresh’.
Botox is less invasive
and less obvious than
other procedures, so
I went for that. It
wasn’t about turning
back the clock – you
go out to have your hair done or buy new
clothes to look and feel nice, so for me it
was just taking a similar step. I don’t truly
know what I expected, but having said
that, my face feels lighter, I’ve lost most
of the frown lines on my forehead, and
the wrinkles around my eyes are less
pronounced. My face now looks
fresh and less tired.”
