details to the piece.
Conventions of print will also
be addressed, as we review
capitalization and punctuation of
sentences.

Reading
This week, we will continue our focus on recognizing story elements
- characters, setting, problem, and solution - using classic and “fractured”
fairy tales. We will use the story element graphic organizer to organize
our thoughts from stories read. Please continue to practice / review
these story elements with your child after reading the book in his/her
book bag.
Children will learn three new vocabulary words (“Say What?” words)
this week while reading the book, Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon. Our
words for the week are: glee, fumble, foolish, revealed.
Math
Skills we will be covering in math this week include: introducing
addition expressions and number sentences, stories about joining items
together, adding in any order, and using objects for problem solving
purposes.
Please look for your child’s homework page in his/her green folder.
Also, children will have a math fact homework sheet {“Minute Math”} with
sums of 5. Your child should complete one column a night, and return the
completed page on Friday.
“TOPIC 1: Understanding Addition” is nearing completion, and
students will be tested on these concepts, as well as a timed addition fact
test {sums of 5}, this Friday. Tests will then be sent home in your child’s
yellow folder on the following Monday.
Social Studies and Classroom Rules
This week, we will discuss and practice great manners! We will
study and participate in proper phone, conversational, and table
manners. Please brainstorm with your child the different ways we can
use good manners at home and school.
Fall Break
Say What?!?!?!?
The Peacock Class is steadily
increasing

vocabulary. Below you will find a
list of our “Say What?” words

It is our goal to “own” these
words during the course of the
year. A child will “own” a word
when he is able to correctly
use the word in his speaking
and writing!
