Counselor’s Corner
Summer is right around the corner and everyone is excited counting down the days! Let’s keep in mind that we still
have May STAAR testing so please encourage your child(ren) to continue to do their best. Let’s finish strong!
Are you wondering what your child can do over the summer? There are plenty of fun-filled activities throughout
the city; from summer camps and reading programs, to sensory friendly events. We have placed a variety of
summer event flyers in our lobby so please feel free to pick some up. To obtain all summer resources we have
available, please email us so we can send you the resources electronically. As we conclude guidance in May and
June, students will focus on decision making and problem solving as they prepare to move on to the next grade
level.

Registration Information – We will continue to register students through the month of May and throughout the
summer. Parents can register from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm in our front office by bringing the student’s birth certificate,
social security card, immunization records, and a current utility bill.
Breakfast with Mom – Our annual breakfast with mom celebration will be this Thursday, May 4th starting at
6:45 am. The cost for an adult breakfast is $2.00 and we will accept cash (exact change preferred) or check. We
hope that you will be able to join us for a fun morning treat before getting your day started.
Closed Campus – Thornton Elementary will be closed to visitors on the testing days of May 8th, 9th, and 10th. No
visitors will be allowed in order to provide students with the best testing environment. This does include having
lunch with your child. Thank you for your support!
Six Flags Tickets – Our front office staff is still selling 1-day tickets to Six Flags for $37.00. These tickets are
upgradable to a season ticket by upgrading at Six Flags for $29.99. This is one of the best deals out there for Six
Flags season tickets and Thornton Elementary gets to keep a portion of the proceeds which goes to buying
additional instructional programs and supplies for our children.
Memorial Day – May 29th is a holiday for our students and staff.
