In here you will find lots of pictured of all the fun and interesting things your relatives and friends have been up to last month. 2 Introduction Welcome to March. How quickly has the year gone by so far? Before we know it, it will be the March equinox (21st) and be officially the first day of spring. March is named after Mars, the Roman god of war as it was the month in which the military campaigning season got under way after winter LATEST NEWS Our residents have enjoyed doing some jigsaws this month. Find us on social media 3 Photo Exhibition We had a visit from Jasper who is a member of staff’s dog, the residents enjoyed lots of cuddles from him. Every Thursday afternoon, we host a tea party, with various entertainers supporting. We have singers, keyboard players, and even had an impressionist. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the trip out and it will now once again become a much more regular activity. Find us on social media 6 The kitchen recently had their Environmental Health Officer visit from the local council, and after much hard work we have maintained our 5 star rating. Our new spring menu will be launched next month. Activities with Oomph! Amy and Dave aim to deliver OOMPH classes 3 times a week and are continuously changing what they do, varying the music, the location and the exercises themselves. If you’d like to come and join in an OOMPH class and see what happens, you are more than welcome. The more the merrier. A bit of housekeeping March Facts. March was called Hlyda or Lide in Old English, which is a reference to the loud winds. Aquamarine and the bloodstone are the birthstones for March. Both stones stand for courage. There are different reports about the true "birth flower." Some says it's the daffodil and others say it's violet. This will be up in the cinema room on a weekend, as at the end of the month anything that is unclaimed, will be getting donated to a local charity shop. Staff News We would like to say a big thank you to some of our care assistants who have been coming into the home on some of their days off, and taking some residents out shopping. It means a lot to us here, and certainly a lot to the residents. So thank you. Find us on social media 9 Help for Heroes. On 28th April, between 2-4pm we are hosting a ‘Bake for heroes’ fundraiser. There will be a cake sale, a raffle and other kinds of refreshments. If anyone would like to help out in any way at all, whether it is giving up some free time, donating some raffle prizes or baking us some delicious goodies to raise some money, Please don’t hesitate to contact any of the R&L team, or Kerry. WANTED ITEMS.. Unwanted Christmas gifts for future raffle prizes. Jigsaws, board games, or other kinds of puzzles. Any CDs or DVDs. Find us on social media Manager Kerry Angeloni, Deputy manager Vanessa Balme, and some staff from our other homes are taking part in Tough Mudder (in May) which is a half marathon distance assault course, in order to raise some money. Find us on social media 14 Sweetheart Swing Tea Dance On Monday 29th February we held a tea dance in the evening as part of a celebration for the Leap Day. This comes only once in 4 years so we felt it deserved a celebration. The evening was filled with laughter and smiles, and lots and lots of dancing.
