Dear Parents,
October 19, 2012
Fall Break was a much-needed break. Students and teachers came back
to school refreshed and ready to learn! We are well on our way to a great second
nine weeks. Reports cards are coming home today. Please review them, set goals
with your child for the second quarter, and return the signed envelope. Please
keep the contents of the envelope. If you have any questions, please contact the
teacher to set up a meeting.
Grade levels are busy planning field trips that are great learning experiences. We don’t want your child to miss these events. Please make sure that students are behaving, have paid the necessary funds, and dress appropriately for
the planned trip. These trips are educational and fun for all children.
Freaky Friday is Oct. 26th. Please send in $1 and send your child in CC
spirit wear. This is the same day as our honors program. We want kids looking
great and showing spirit! Movie night is also that night. This movie night is for
grades 3-5 students only. It is sponsored by 4th grade. Please see the attached
flyer for more information. Remind students not to bring electronics to the
event. The same behavior expectations in school apply for evening events as well.
Red Ribbon week is at the end of the month. Please see the attached
information about the weekly events. Students will participate in a Red Ribbon
week contest and spirit activities. We are proud to be a drug free school and
community!
The Magazine Fundraiser Kick off is Nov. 1st. Thanks to all who have
participated in the past. This is an easy way for us to raise funds for our partnership with China and our global initiatives. Nov.1st is also restaurant night at
Noodles and Company at 86th and Michigan Rd. Please come and celebrate Mrs.
Midkiff’s birthday and help PTO.
What action are you seeing your students do at home? Are you helping
your child be responsible? Here are some ways you can help instill these wonderful attitudes and attributes in your children:
• Have your child choose their outfits each morning;
• Keep track of sports equipment and uniforms
• Give them regular chores (cleaning room, basement, empty dishwasher);
• Have them work toward small goals;
• Have them help with small tasks that contribute to a larger one (e.g., move the
furniture, so you can paint).
Then celebrate their action with fun breaks and rewards, such as going
to the playground or taking a bike ride. The action can be big or small.

Birthday Book Club
Attention

Birthday Kids!
Join the BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB, and we’ll help you celebrate your
birthday! The BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB is a chance for everyone to celebrate your birthday
AND build our Crooked Creek School library.
It’s easy! During your birthday month OR on your half-birthday, bring in a new or “gently” used
book to the BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB box in the library. Be sure to complete the information at
the bottom of the page and put it inside the book you are donating. Mrs. Ritz will then call your
name during the announcements on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012. After announcements you will
come to the library for a picture and a birthday treat. The book you donate will have a special
sticker placed inside with your name. A permanent picture will be placed in an album that will
be kept in the library.
If you don’t know what book to choose, donations are accepted, and the PTO will purchase a
book in your name. You may also celebrate by honoring a friend or family member.
You may bring your book to the BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB box any time during the month, but we
will celebrate your birthday book donation after announcements on the celebration day.

THANK YOU to the entire Crooked Creek Community for an
AMAZING Trash Bag Sale this fall! We surpassed our goal
and with that will be able to support more educational opportunities for
our students, teachers & staff throughout the year! Some recognitions are
in order!
CONGRATULATIONS to NYA AHMAD, our BIG WINNER
who sold 80 Rolls of Trash Bags and won
the iPod Nano & Wrist Band!
