Lao Tzu Step out Step right The journey after school may seem daunting. It may seem exciting. It may seem both at the same time. Whatever it is, it begins with you stepping out of your comfort zone and into something new. Woo hoo! Or left. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that you make a choice and move. Research what you want to do. Talk to people. Attend open days. There’s never one road to success. The important thing is not to stand still. Just take one step at a time. Step up Step together Make your journey your own. Leaving school and taking the next step to independence is one of life’s big milestones. The pressure might be on, but you can do it. Take control. Live your life your way. The best journeys are those that are shared. This doesn’t mean you have to follow your school friends to tertiary study – it means finding your people and sharing the journey with them. The experience has helped me to determine that I want to use my naturopathy degree to focus on fertility, and mothers’ and newborns’ health. Being involved in the Endeavour Open Days and having the opportunity to help other people embark on their natural health journey has been a major highlight for me. People seem to like talking to the younger students such as myself so they hear all about studying with Endeavour first hand. The ambassadorship has given me great networking opportunities, and I’ve met so many inspiring people who are passionate about the field of natural health, including fourth year students who I might not have had the chance to cross paths with otherwise. I thought the first year would be pretty basic but in our second semester we got straight into looking at all the different herbs and learning about them which has been amazing. Overall I’ve enjoyed the challenge of honing my public speaking skills and communicating with confidence to help others decide if a career in natural health is for them. If you’re considering whether or not to apply for the scholarship with Endeavour – just give it a go. When I filled out the application form for the Endeavour School Leaver Scholarship I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d get it, and I did! Nadia Berjaoui Aleisha De Fague 2016 School Leaver Scholarship Recipient Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy), Sydney 2016 School Leaver Scholarship Recipient Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy), Sydney Being an Endeavour Student Ambassador, through the scholarship, has helped me to reach my full potential. I have attended several Open Days and a Career Expo. These events were immensely fun as I was able to communicate with present Year 12 students about their passion for natural health and like-minded interests. Endeavour offers a classroom environment that promotes shared student and lecturer discussion for a deeper appreciation of what clinical practice will involve. The merger of science and holism encourages us to think critically and develop essential skills as budding naturopaths. I am also interested in postgrad research and if I can identify a gap in current research findings I may also look to start that at some point. I came to naturopathy after having great experiences with a naturopath who inspired me to do the course. He’s actually already offered me the chance to partner with his business when I graduate, so I feel like there are already really exciting possibilities ahead for me. Endeavour has equipped me with the skills and necessities that I will carry throughout my future studies and beyond. With this scholarship, I have become much more confident and have strengthened my dedication to the natural health sector. DIY Wellness – Naturopathy Did you know certain herbs could help you manage stress? Chamomile, Linden, Passionflower and Lemon Balm help with the stress and anxiety of exam preparation. They can also assist you to sleep. The opportunity and degree have given me the confidence and dedication vital for my pursuit of happiness and health. I loved speaking with people at the career expos and Natural Health Open Days as part of the scholarship – I got a huge kick out of being able to guide others on their potential career pathways.
