From the Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
WORLD MISSION SUNDAY
Today is WORLD MISSION
SUNDAY when the Church throughout the
world celebrates and encourages ongoing evangelization of all
the nations of the world. Our hope as Christians has always
been that the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ be announced to
all the inhabitants of the earth. It is a monumental task and
made more difficult by the rampant secularism and materialism
of our age. But, we must renew our efforts world-wide to carry
on a new evangelization using modern means in order to reach
all peoples even to the very ends of the earth. We must each do
our own part to live out the message of the Gospel and to
instruct and teach those around us who perhaps have not really
embraced the mystery of Christ. But, at the same time we must
also do our part to spread the Gospel even to foreign lands by
supporting through prayer and monetary gifts those who serve
God as foreign missionaries. Let us each make a sacrifice this
day by giving to the special collection for WORLD MISISON
SUNDAY.
VISIT OF OUR LADY OF SAN JUAN DE LOS LAGOS
The image of Our Lady of San Juan de Los Lagos
from the City of the same name in the state of Jalisco, Mexico
arrived yesterday (Saturday, October 22nd) at 6:30 p.m. in the
evening. It was received with a joyful celebration and
procession and solemnly enthroned in our parish church where
the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was then offered. What a great
privilege it is to receive the pilgrim statue of our Lady. The
Sanctuary where the pilgrim statue originated is the second
most visited Shrine in honor of our Lady in Mexico. Many of
our parishioners have come from the states of Jalisco and
Zacatecas and have had the opportunity to visit this famous
Shrine and have prayed there for various needs. While the
statue is here with us let us see this opportunity to present our
Lady with our needs just as if we were visiting her in the
special sanctuary of Our Lady of San Juan de Los Lagos in
Mexico. She will truly hear our prayers and as a good and
gentle Mother will present our hopes and desires to her Son the
King of Kings and Lord of Lords. What a marvelous thing it is
to know that we have such a Mother in Heaven who prays for
us, who sees us and who loves us.
THE BELLS
Some of you have heard me announce that we are in
the process of purchasing a Carillon system that will replace the
bells that are in our bell tower. The bells will remain there but
since we have tried to fix them numerous times I thought that it
would be better as well as safer to just go ahead with putting a
carillon system on top of the Church where it will be able to be
heard throughout our neighborhood. The recorded bells used in
the carillon will sound each hour of the day and night with the
correct time, they will sound before each Sunday Mass as a call
to worship, they will be heard three times a day to announce the
Angelus and they will be heard each afternoon at 3:00 p.m. to
announce the Hour of Divine Mercy. They will also be able to
play Christmas carols or other songs as we desire or toll for
funerals. The cost of the carillon system is about $10,000.00
and I imagine the installation expense will be another couple
thousand.
October 16, 2016
So far the Spanish Knights of Columbus have given $2,500.00
toward the cost of getting the Carillon and private donations
have totaled an additional $500.00. Please see if you can give
us something as well. On your check please list in the Memo
that the check is for the “Bells”. As always I am very grateful
for any assistance you can give.
CHAPEL OF ST.TORIBIO ROMO
Although we are making progress paying off the
remaining debt on the Chapel of St.Toribio that progress is
rather slow at this point. We still owe about $11,000.00
unfortunately. I thought we were owing less than that but I
was mistaken. The Hispanic Choir plans to sell some CD’s
and when that is done we should be a little closer to
eliminating the debt. Our food sales on Sundays outside of the
Church are going toward paying off the debt as well. Any
other donations that anyone wants to give are much
appreciated. The Chapel is used every day for Eucharistic
Adoration. Our Lord is never left alone day or night thanks to
a very dedicated group of volunteers who dedicate time to
adore Him and speak to Him. Anyone can come to the Chapel
at any time. Everyone in the parish should be taking at least
one hour a week for adoration. If you are, thank you very
much!! If you are not please do so as soon as possible. There
is a book in the chapel for you to sign whenever you are
visiting the Chapel and you can indicate in that book that you
wish to take a particular hour each week. Someone from the
Team that oversees the Eucharistic Adoration will be in touch
with you to put you on the adorers’ list so that we can be
assured that the Chapel will never be left alone.
A NEW BUILDING PROJECT AT THE PARISH
What? A new project? I can hear the hesitation in
some of your voices!! But, yes it is true. Soon we hope to
start a new building project right outside of the front doors of
the Church. You might remember that we had a roof
connecting the Church with the school but when we built the
Chapel of St.Toribio we had to remove it. And so now instead
of a simple connecting roof we are planning to build an actual
room that will be quite large and will accommodate not only
receptions after Mass but will also have the bookstore and a
little kitchenette. In that way when the weather is inclement
the community can gather before and after Mass in that special
“activity room”. You will be hearing more about this project
when we get the final plans in order. I am not sure yet how
much it will costs but I will let you know soon.
PILGRIMAGE TO THE CATHEDRAL FOR YEAR OF
MERCY
This coming Saturday, October 29th those who would
like to gain a plenary indulgence by walking through the Holy
Doors at the Cathedral will leave from our parish at 2:30 p.m.
and will be back by 4:00 p.m. We are going by bus and those
who would like to ride the bus are asked to let us know
beforehand in the parish office. First come first serve!! When
we get to the Cathedral we will pray the rosary and the Chapet
of Divine Mercy. To obtain the plenary indulgence one must
be in the state of grace, and pray as the Holy Father has
directed. Information about the plenary indulgence will be
provided for those who are making this special “pilgrimage”.
The Holy Year will conclude on the Solemnity of Christ the
King.
REPARATION TO THE HOLY FACE OF JESUS
There is a new group starting up in the parish under
the leadership of Josefina Torres. This new group is a group
which desires to do reparation for the sins committed against
Our Lord Jesus Christ, especially sins against the second and
third commandments. Many people use the Lord’s name in
vain and many people do not observe Sunday as a day of rest
and prayer. Our Lord has asked for reparation and so as a
response this new group in the parish will gather on Sundays
and pray together in reparation. I am looking for a good
picture of the Holy Face to display in our new chapel. If you
would like to join this group and pray prayers of reparation
with them you can let Alejandra know in our parish office.
And so now we are doing reparation on the First
Friday of the Month for sins against the Sacred Heart of
Jesus especially for sins against the Eucharist. And we are
also doing reparation on the First Saturday of the month for
sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary. You
might go on online and read about these special devotions if
you too wish to join in the reparation. Our Lord and Our
Lady have requested it and so we are trying to comply.
THE ROSARY CONFRATERNITY
In 2008 we started a rosary confraternity here in our
parish and have now over 100 members who have promised
to pray all the mysteries of the rosary at least once a week
for each other. The rosary can be prayed anywhere that is
convenient but one of the intentions of the rosary has to be
for the members of the Confraternity. The Confraternity
includes people not only from our parish but from
throughout the world. Those who have joined the
Confraternity through our parish number over 100 and more
will probably be joining as we are in the process of reviving
our membership through J Thomas of St.Bernard’s parish.
J Thomas is a candidate for the permanent diaconate and has
graciously volunteered to assist us with this effort to revive
the Confraternity’s membership. If you wish to join in and
are willing to pray all the mysteries of the rosary at least
once a week for the members of the Confraternity you can
let us know in our parish office. You will receive a special
certificate of membership and a pin as well. It is hard to see
why everyone would not respond to this invitation as they
will be literally receiving the prayers of thousands of people
from throughout the world who are praying the rosary for
their eternal salvation.
Maybe I have made this letter long enough!! Have
a great week and thanks for taking an interest in the goings
on of this wonderful parish of Sts.Peter and Paul.
Sincerely yours,
Father Timothy Davison

Persistent Prayer
To the best of our knowledge, the
authors of the new testament did not
spend much time in each other’s
company following the Resurrection.
They took their charge to go to the
nations and spread the good News
seriously Paul and Luke are an
exception to this, having travelled
together on missionary journeys. It is
no accident, then, that perseverance in
prayer is a favorite theme of both
authors. Luke’s Gospel ( which speaks
most frequently about Jesus’ own
prayer), Acts and the Pauline Letters all
exhort us to unceasing prayer.
Paul’s personality was certainly
tenacious; he most likely would have
admire the persistent widow in today’s
Gospel passage. The purpose of these
passages is not to make us think—as
infants and toddlers do– that if we keep
asking or yelling or crying we will
eventually get our way. No, the point is
that we will persist in the following that
belief whether it is convenient or not,
even when we come up against
seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
