From the education Director
Kathryn Hnatio Vicere
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the ATMTC Academy. I invite
you to explore the outstanding educational theater opportunities
and high quality musical theater training the Academy offers for
students ages 2 through 18.
Our nationally recognized theater education offerings include classes for a diverse group of
students:
• Our Pre-School Playlabs: cooperative classes for our youngest thespians that focus on
social skills, guided play and stretching imaginative muscles (see page 4-5),
• Exposure performing arts classes such as Sing, Dance, Act! and Acting 101 for both
those grade schoolers who are looking to dip their toes in the performing arts waters,
as well as those who want to make this their “number one after school activity”(see
page 4-5),
• A robust offering of technique-based dance, acting, and voice classes for middle
school and high schoolers (see page 6-7),
• Summer camps and training programs (see pages 10 & 12-13),
• Our Student Production programs (see page 9), and
• Our year-long Pre-Professional Program for aspiring musical theater artists in Grades
4-12.
ATMTC Academy’s creative drama, theater and musical theater training programs take place
in two locations: Historic Glen Echo Park, in Glen Echo, MD and at Wintergreen Plaza, in
Rockville MD.
During the summer months and school breaks, our camps and School’s Out! programs for
elementary-aged students incorporate the fundamentals of musical theater performance
in an inclusive and enjoyable atmosphere. Programs for Middle and High school students
provide immersive experiences for aspiring theater and musical theater artists.
All of our Academy classes’ curriculum complement the National Core Arts Standards,
providing a challenging outlet for students to develop the skills necessary to be successful
performers - including self-discipline, teamwork, problem solving, and self-confidence.
Many of our former students have gone on to achieve great things: ATMTC Academy
Alumni have numerous Broadway, national tour, TV, and film credits.
I invite you to visit both of our locations, speak with our staff and talk with our students and
parents: You, too, will want to join us at ATMTC Academy!
If we can be of any assistance, please feel free email us: [email protected].

Broadway Baby
This is a class for our youngest dancers
that incorporates creative movement,
dancing with props, and storytelling
to introduce and develop gross motor
skills. Your child’s first independent
dance class!
Create the Drama
Using children’s stories ranging from
familiar fairy tales to modern day youth
literature, your child will learn the
basics of presenting for an audience,
improvising, and acting in character.
A fun acting class tailored to young
school-aged children, this class begins
the crossover from creative drama
to dramatic arts. No pre-requisite or
placement is required for this course.
Explore with Dora & Diego
Come on, vamonos! This journey
has all the trappings of the popular
toddler television hit: using the map,
the backpack and three tasks, we
dramatize and craft a different journey
for your little ones through creative
and sensory-oriented play! This
class incorporates very basic Spanish
language, social, cooperation and
cognitive learning skills.
Princess Sofia and Friends
There is so much to see and do in
Enchancia with Princess Sofia and her
pals! Become a student of the Royal
Preparatory Academy each week,
role-playing and gaining important
knowledge along the way: What makes
a real princess is what is on the inside.
Each class will integrate dramatic play
to explore character qualities such as
kindness, generosity, loyalty, honesty,
and grace- a royal combination of
cooperative learning and fun!
Acting 101*
One of the most important classes a
young performer can take! Journey
with ATMTC through the process of
acting: a professional teaching artist
will guide participants using creative
drama techniques through the basics
of acting, improvisation, and character
development. The class culminates
in an informal presentation of the
characters and stories the class created
during the semester. (No pre-requisite
is required.)
Broadway Prep*
Broadway Prep, the second-level
continuation course of Sing, Dance,
Act!, delves further into the craft
of musical theater performance by
teaching students to convey emotion
and character in song, scene, and
movement. Working on developing
these skills individually and as an
ensemble, students will learn to analyze
scripts and songs for performance,
learn correct terminology, and illustrate
an understanding of musical theater
basics. (Pre-requisite of Sing, Dance, Act!
is required, or by instructor permission.)
Musical Theater Dance I**
Musical Theater Dance I is a beginning
dance course designed to introduce
your young dancer to the dance moves
and terminology used in professional
musical theater. Under the direction
of the instructor, students will learn
proper dance terminology, develop
dance etiquette, and increase their
body awareness as they learn the basics
of ballet, jazz, and tap dance. No prerequisite or placement is required for
this course. (Advancement level option
after two semesters, or by instructor
permission: Musical Theater Dance II.
Sing, Dance, Act!*
The best way to introduce your young
thespian to the genre of musical
theater! This class will include stage
performance basics, vocal instruction,
and simple Broadway dance
combinations by creating and using
age-appropriate musical scenes. No
pre-requisite or placement is required
for this course. (Advancement level
option after two semesters, or by
instructor permission: Broadway Prep.)
Singing for the Stage
This introductory vocal course teaches
young students the fundamentals of
healthy singing and musicianship.
Through vocal exercises and musical
theater songs, students will work on
tone production, breath support, and
basic music theory. (No pre-requisite is
required.)
Mini Play: Aladdin!
No audition required
This class culminates in an informal
performance that is guided by the
classics and created by our students.
Participants will join Aladdin, Genie,
Princess Jasmine, Abu, Iago, and Jafar
on a journey to the Cave of Wonders as
they explore the story, its characters,
plotline and sequence; working
together to create their own improvised
theater piece!
*This class is planned with a rotating
curriculum, so that returning students will
continue to be challenged.
**Students who take both the Winter and
Spring sessions concurrently between
September-March may participate in the
Spring ATMTC Academy Dance Recital.
