Dateline: December 7th. Best Steak House Hall on the Campus of St Pascals. The Tigers Boys Varsity squad hit the cold and windy road on Wednesday to the unfriendly confines of Best Steak House Hall to take on a rather large St Pascal Knights squad in front of
a sold out (capacity 29) crowd. "Big team, physical team, small court - going to be a lot of
banging and battling" said Henry Votel as he adjusted his James Worthy game goggles "we
need to be ready to roll and fight for every loose ball". Votel would prove prophetic as it
was a tight game from the start and no team held more than a 6 point lead the entire
game. The Tigers were led by Yanz on the scoring end but everyone contributed in what
turned out to be a very balanced scorebook in the end. "we ran a lot of our offense sets,
pushed the ball, and changed our defense throughout the game to keep them off guard. I
thought Coach Yanz and Coach Manor did a good job of not spilling their 11 coffees/diet
cokes/waters on Coach Preiners dry erase board on the bench" said Noah Reardon. The
Tigers were down 21-20 at half but came out to take the lead and never relinquish after the
first few minutes of the 2nd half. . "We locked down on defense, got a few of their guys in
foul trouble, and found a way to get out of there with the W" said Mia Geelhoed, who's
rookie campaign continues to impress.

Dateline: December 5th. As the crowds flowed into a
sold out Mt Tabor Hall on the campus of Transfiguration Catholic School, the 5th Grade Lady Tigers looked
a bit nervous. "Home opener, a few jitters but we'll
try and overcome them. I just hope that the smoke
from Coach Scott Johnson's pregame pyrotechnics display don't cause issues with our vision of the hoop"
said Kara "Shotgun" Sheeser as she was getting taped
up in the prep locker room.
The Lady Tigers took to
the court but a slow start is what transpired. "St
John the Baptist is a legit title contender and we respect their talent but we just did not get out of the
gates quickly" said Ella "Oil Can" Geelhoed "that ’s on
us as the players to give the home crowd a show".
St
John's had their way with the Lady Tigers early and
seemed to disrupt the flow of the Tigers offense.

History does tend to repeat itself and the Tigers snuck
out with a 46-44 win after Tre' "Ice Water" Montague
sank both free throws with 21 seconds left in the game
to keep the Tigers Varsity undefeated on the year at 2 0. The last 2 games vs these Knights was a 1 point win
and an overtime 2 point win. "W hen two teams want to
win, only one can win" said an emotional Coach Yanz after the game who then cut his postgame presser short
to get home and DVR the live Hairspray show. The Varsity Tigers squad will head on the road for the 1st of
two "Border Battles" with rival St Ambrose on Thursday, Dec 15th at 4:30pm. "W e owe That Team to the
South from last year. We'll be ready" said Luke "Duke"

Athletic Director
Be aware that coaches, assistant coaches and volunteers need to be current with the VIRTUS training.
A couple of things to be watching for and putting on your calendar when the announcement is made.
6th Grade Basketball tournament on 01/06 & 07—will need volunteers.
Knights of Columbus Free Throw contest on 01/14 in our gym. Last year we had two of our students make it all the way to the
State finals.
8th Grade Basketball tournament on 01/20 & 21—will need volunteers.
7th Grade Basketball tournament on 01/27 & 28—will need volunteers.
Girls Basketball Playoffs will end on the last Sunday in Feb. We might be hosting some games in the middle of Feb.
Boys Basketball Playoffs will end the first Sunday in March. We might be hosting some games late in Feb.
Black & Gold Banquet is planned for April 1, 2017.
Booster Club has run a golf tournament for the last couple of years, and run it around mid—May.
Athletic Sports Banquet, is usually held late in May or early June. We have been seeing around 100 people attend, both students and adults. We hold it in our own gym, so there is room for more.
For every home Basketball game we will be asking for volunteers to run the scoreboard. Plus if we have two or more home
games on the same night the Booster Club might open up the Concessions stand and they will be looking for volunteers also.
Watch SUG for these opportunities.

5th Grade
The 5th grade boys played their first home game of their young career at Mount Tabor Hall of Transfiguration against St
Patrick’s of Hudson. The gym was packed with raucous fans ready for an exciting showdown. And the teams did not
disappoint. The boys started a little sluggish with them playing a little bit too much of “Who is my guy?” on defense and
allowed St Patrick’s to get some easy baskets. But the boys kept playing tough and ground out some offense with their
backdoor cuts to only be down 9-12 at halftime. Jesse “Don’t Call It a Comeback” Hernandez tried to get the team fired
up at halftime, “This is our house. Nobody comes in here and disrespects us. It is time that we showed them who we
are.” The second half was high octane the whole way. Isaac “Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee” Kibagendi put so
much pressure on their ball handler that I think he turned him into a diamond. Emmett “The Beast” O’Keefe was a monster on the boards, grabbing rebound after rebound to keep the Tigers in the game. For twenty minutes, the game was
a track meet of both teams running back and forth, up and down the court.
However, the Tigers could not take advantage of their defensive gems and St Patrick’s was solid enough to come out
ahead, giving the Tigers a 25-28 loss. This was again a very balanced scoring game for the Tigers with 8 of 11 kids in
the scoring column.

The 2nd half showed what these Lady Tigers were made of, fixing their
defense intensity and working the ball around a lot better. Sheeser,
Quinlan and Preiner led the offense with 2 apiece. "Correctable mistakes, we'll go over the film this week and get back to work Friday at
practice" said Jordyn "Jo Jo" Preiner. "W e have ICS league starting Saturday so we need to clean some things up". The Lady Tigers took the
loss 48-6 and an emotional Coach Johnson said after the game "we as
coaches have to do better and prepare these girls. No shortcuts in
this league, we'll go back to work on friday". The Lady Tigers will head
to White Castle Memorial Stadium on the campus of Immaculate Conception on Saturday to start the ICS league at 11am vs. St John (lets hope
its not St John the Baptist). They will then head to St Croix Catholic
on Monday for a 6:30pm CAA road game.

Game this week is being postponed. When rescheduled we will get the word out.
6th Grade
The 6th grade boys rolled out their first regular season at home Monday night. The team looked ready and eager to play their nearby
opponent, St. Ambrose from Woodbury.
In the first half, the Tigers made some smart drives to the basket. Several steals were also forged which developed into some great
scoring opportunities. Offensively, the Tigers did fairly well with passing although they did give up a few plays due to turnovers. By the
second half, it became clear that St. Ambrose was dominating with a their skills and a win was a bit of a reach for the Tigers. While the
first season game had its highs and lows, the Tigers have a remarkable amount of potential this season. The final score was 39-20.
The 6th graders will play their first IC game this Sunday. We look forward to seeing our loyal fans then! Go Tigers!
