Hello Again!
I am sitting at my desk,
racking my brain for what
we can tell you. I suppose
a lot has happened. I am
starting to feel the need for
a break myself. I am no fan
of the cooler weather.
Our financial end of year
closes on June 30th. It is
looking very positive so far,
if everything continues to
plan we will have managed
to break even and show
that your hospital is in fact
a viable business. This
has been no mean feat I
can tell you and I would
like to take this opportunity
to thank the Board of
Trustees, all the staff and
you the community for the
support and teamwork we
have enjoyed in making
this a reality.
We are still looking at
fundraising opportunities
to assist us to build back
our ‘cushion’ behind us for
times when our occupancy
fluctuates. We have been
approached
by
Chris
Haynes from the Matamata
Airfield committee. 17th –
18th March 2012 they are
putting a fundraising event
with an Airshow together!!
As part of the advertising
he has offered me a ride
in a plane and a “couple
of barrel rolls” with a photo
and story in the paper as an
‘after shot’. I am definitely
up for that!. The proceeds
of the event are to be
split between Matamata,
Morrinsville and Te Aroha
Hospitals. Please diary
these dates as it sounds
like a great deal of fun for
the whole family.

CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT
Visit by Tony Ryall to
Te Aroha Hospital
In 1961, Mr Norman Shelton,
Minister of Health, opened Te
Aroha Hospital.
On Friday 24th June 2011, the
current Minister of Health, Tony
Ryall, spent some time at Te Aroha
Hospital.
Tony Ryall was accompanied by
Scott Simpson, National candidate
for Coromandel.
After a brief welcome, Tony and
Scott spent 40 minutes on a tour of
the Hospital and Lawrence House.
Their overwhelming feeling from
the facility was one of welcoming
warmth. On several occasions as
Nikki, Cecilia, and I showed them
through our facility, they remarked
on the wonderful atmosphere
throughout Te Aroha Hospital.
They spent time with a number
of residents, along with some of
their families and friends. Tony and
Scott spent time talking to staff and
finding out more about the care
that we give our residents.
After touring Lawrence House and
Te Aroha Hospital, we had a brief
afternoon tea and special Board
meeting that included Minister
Ryall and Scott Simpson.
During the meeting, we were able
to give the Minster a more full and
complete history of our hospital,
and bring him up to date with the
issues that we face. We discussed
with Tony Ryall the issues we are
having with securing long term
tenure of our land and buildings,
the transitional care contract that
we and the community are so
keen to obtain, and other issues
relating to progressing our facilities
and future opportunities.
Overall, the Minister was very
impressed with what we are
doing and went away with a clear
understanding of our issues. We
expect that some progress will be
made as a result of his visit. It was
a privilege hosting the Minister
of Health at Te Aroha Hospital,
and Nikki, Cecilia and all the staff
should be immensely proud of
their facility that was so genuinely
admired by him and Scott Simpson.
Thank you
