‘‘It’s a work-in-progress. The grand plan is
to install surround sound, it’ll be great for the
family to watch a film,’’ he says.
Other features include two bathrooms,
garage and portico, which helps create a
striking street presence.
The ensuite and walk-in wardrobe adjoining
the main bedroom have been amended to fit
one after the other, rather than side-by-side.
‘‘We think it’s more useful going through
the walk-in wardrobe to get to the bathroom.
You can have a shower and get changed
straight away, instead of having to walk out
of the ensuite and around,’’ says Ben.
The striking colour scheme of charcoals,
whites and greys was selected by Carli.
‘‘The dark floors are a highlight and provide
a nice contrast to the light walls. My wife says
greys won’t age either,’’ says Ben.
Meanwhile the red pendant lights
overlooking the stylish breakfast bar further
enhance the home’s modern look.

While children Bailey, 4, and Andie, 1,
keep Mum and Dad busy, there’s little chance
of a stray toy posing a safety risk.
‘‘Our previous home was very small and we
were always tripping over the kids’ toys,’’ says
Ben. ‘‘We decided to convert the second living
room into a play area. It’s much better
because they can have fun without disturbing
us when guests are over.’’
The open-plan kitchen has proved a hit
when the children’s friends are over, too.
‘‘We give the oven a good workout at the
kids’ birthday parties. We can keep an eye
on them while they’re enjoying sausage rolls,
pies and pasties,’’ says Ben.
If IT manager Ben needs a break from
the kids, though, a study provides a
convenient retreat to work in.
‘‘I can use my computers in peace and
it’s really quiet,’’ says Ben.
Conversely, a home theatre offers plenty
of entertainment for movie buffs.

The four-bedroom Geneva provided the ideal
blueprint, incorporating large open-plan living
combined with a generous backyard made an
ideal choice for Ben and Carli to raise their
young family.
‘‘There were two must-haves we were
looking for inside the home – space and
storage,’’ Ben says.
‘‘We also wasted plenty of room round
the side of the home.’’
To suit their needs, the second dining room
and walk-in pantry was removed and replaced
with a storage room and larder.
‘‘The front dining room seemed a bit too
big for our needs,’’ he said. ‘‘There was no
point for us having two dining areas and rarely
using one. We stick to the main living area
at the back so it made sense to increase our
overall space with the kids running around.’’
