Regiani A WEEK FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS Congratulations to One day last week on the air a breathless newscaster said, “It’s not very often we have this much news to cover.” President Obama brought the eulogy for Rev. Clementa Pinckney who was gunned down in his church simply because he is black. I was personally moved as the president brought comfort to a hurting nation. It reminded me of when President Bush did the same thing masterfully after the terrorist’s attacks of September 11. History books will record the time a sitting President broke into “Amazing Grace.” The massacre in Charleston points to the racial struggles we still have in this nation. Jenny Weaver and Rob Barger who were married June 29, 2015. According to the Record Attendance: SS Enrollment: SS Attendance: Guests: New Members: 6/21 307 136 5 ___ 141 : Fresh Spirit: There were the coordinated terrorist attacks in three nations. In France a man stormed an American-owned chemical plant, decapitated one person and apparently tried to blow up the facility. In Tunisia a gunman drew an assault rifle from a beach umbrella and killed at least 38 people at a seaside resort. And in Kuwait, a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a mosque during communal prayers, killing at least 25 Shiite worshipers. Terrorist attacks are now so common this was not even the lead story. Police concluded a 3 week manhunt by arresting escaped murderer David Sweat in New York, a mere two miles from getting away into Canada. People in that area of the country lived on edge for weeks. It now appears the escapees had help from prison employees. Have we lost our moral compass? Then on Friday, the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in this country. Few issues have been as contentious as this one. Even the Justices voted 5 to 4. This is an extremely personal issue for all of us. The acceptance of gay marriage has grown significantly in the United States in the past 5 years. Many people are gripped by fear feeling defeated and wondering about the future. Let me remind you the use of our church facilities by any family for a worship service is a privilege that is granted not a right that is guaranteed. This dizzying week has left many feeling hopeless and worried. These events should shake us. They remind us about the reality in which we find ourselves. But remember this; God has placed us in this world at this time to bear witness to a lost world about the hope that comes in Jesus Christ. God is still God; we humbly offer ourselves in service. There still are miracles out there for us to be part of. Is there no hope? Are we history? Or are we the people of God who claim the power of God to live out faith in God in such a way as to make history? The answer to that question, my friends is up to us. Well on the afternoon of the 17th, we will meet at Don and Nova Miller’s @ 2pm, for some pool time! We will cook out around 5 pm, parents are invited to come eat with us. What a blessing this past Sunday to hear One Voice and juBELLation, youth choirs from First Baptist Southern Pines! Mark your calendars, August 1st, we have a mission opportunity! Thank You, Wil Save the Date! Missionaries “Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper.” ~ Psalm 1:1-3 At the first CBF General Assembly in 1992, the Fellowship commissioned four filed personnel, JoAnn and John David Hopper in Rüschlikon, Switzerland, and Charles “T” and Kathy Thomas in Bucharest, Romania. Over the next four years the CBF Global Missions team grew to meet the 100-member mark in 1996. Today 125 people work in over 30 countries, collaborating with partners worldwide. From short-term endeavors to life-long commitments, we empower individuals and churches to participate in cross-cultural service. Pray that God will bless the ministries they provide in the communities they serve. Pray also for CBF Global Missions staff members who provide coordination and resources as they serve and equip field personnel. To learn more, visit www.thefellowship.info/fieldpersonnel. Pag 3 Viewmont ~ Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow In 2015, the Diaconate and the Finance Committee, in conjunction with our 80th anniversary, initiated a capital campaign called Viewmont Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. The focus of this campaign is on missions and ministering to our members and community. The goal of Viewmont Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow is to raise $800,000.00, which will allow us to pay off our debt (approximately $575,000.00) as well as provide funds for immediate property improvements. Please consider what you can pledge to give over the next three years. Your contribution will be divided 75% toward debt reduction and 25% toward facility maintenance/improvements. You are probably thinking “How much should I pledge?” No one can tell you this, as each family’s circumstances are unique. You may be reading this letter as someone who is neither a regular attendee nor a giver to the church. Or, you may be a faithful attendee but have never supported the church financially. You may be that member who regularly attends and gives sacrificially each week. Wherever you are in that scenario, please know Viewmont Baptist Church loves you and appreciates you. Before you decide on the amount of your gift, please prayerfully consider the generosity that God has shown you, the importance of the mission we have been given, and the staggering returns that God promises to the cheerful giver. We would ask that you please consider your commitment to Viewmont Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow as additional support for the church, beyond your regular tithes and offerings to ensure that day-to-day programs and services continue uninterrupted. Thank you for your sacrifices on behalf of Viewmont Baptist church, both spiritual and financial. You are a blessing to us.
