Question 2
Define the following terms and their SI unit.
i)
Velocity
ii)
Displacement
iii)

Question 3
What are the differences between velocity and speed?
Question 4
What are the differences between distance and displacement?
Question 5

The final velocity,
ii.
The distance travelled by the car.
Question 6
A car accelerates from 8 m/s to 25 m/s at 2 m/s2. Find;

Question 7
A car is moving with a velocity of 70 km/h. After that its start decelerates uniformly and stops at a
distance of 15 m. find the deceleration of the car (assuming it is uniform)
Question 8
A car starts from rest and accelerates uniformly at 4m/s2 for 22 s.
i. What is its final speed?
ii. How far it has travels in this time?
Question 9
A runner runs from the starting line and achieves a velocity of 10 ms-1 in 3 seconds.
i.
Calculate his acceleration.
ii.
If the acceleration is constant, calculate the displacement traveled in 7seconds.
Question 10
The speed of a car decreases uniformly from 35 ms-1 to 20 ms-1 over a distance of 80 m. Calculate
i.
The deceleration of the car
ii.
The time taken by the car
Question 11
An object starts from rest and accelerates uniformly at a rate of 4 m/s2 for 25 s. Determine how far it
travelled for the whole duration.
Question 12
A car starts from rest and accelerates at a constant acceleration of 4 ms-2 for 6 seconds. The car then
moves at a constant velocity for 11 seconds. The brake is then applied and the car comes to complete
stops in 8 seconds.
i.
What is the maximum velocity attained by the car?
ii.
Plot a velocity-time graph for the whole journey
iii.
From the graph plotted, determine the total distance travelled
Question 13
A car is driven by a junior driver at a velocity of 110 kmh-1. The driver notice a cow is standing on the
road 88 m in front of him. He instantly applies the brakes and the car is stops after 9 seconds.
i.
What is the deceleration of the car?
ii. Calculate the distance travelled after the brakes are applied.
iii. Is the driver able to avoid hitting the cow?
Question 14
A car starts from rest and accelerates uniformly to 35 m/s over a period of 15 seconds. The car then
maintained the velocity for 25 seconds. The velocity is then reduced uniformly to 15 m/s in 10 seconds
and finally brought to rest after another further 10 seconds.
i.
Sketch the Velocity – Time graph for the journey.
ii.
Calculate the acceleration for the first 15 seconds
iii.
Find the total distance travelled by the car.
