Week 4 Term 2
May 14th 2010
NEWSLETTER
Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe four weeks of this term have already passed. This morning the
whole school attended the 9am parish Mass in recognition of this Sunday’s the Feast
of the Ascension. For many years the Feast of the Ascension was celebrated on the
Thursday, forty days after Easter. It is now celebrated on the Seventh Sunday of
Easter.
When Jesus was to return to His Father in Heaven, He asked His disciples to be His
witnesses - to tell everyone what they had seen and heard. They were to encourage
people to turn away from any sinfulness in their lives and ask for and receive God’s
forgiveness. This was most significantly done through their own actions and lives.
We too, through Baptism, are called to be witnesses to Christ in the way we live and
act towards others.
Parent Forum.
Last Tuesday night we had our parent forum which was attended by sixteen parents – great to see! The
items discussed were around the school calendar and a number of suggestions were tabled for future
events. The minutes of the meeting are attached for your perusal.
Pupil Free Day.
Next Monday is Staff Development Day and this means no school for the students. Earlier this week
you should have received an invitation to attend the ‘Play Date’ planned for this day. This invitation is
not limited to the Kinder mums so Stage 1 parents are also welcome.
Details are:
Meeting at Burnie Mullane Sports Complex Playground (Marella Ave, Kellyville) at 11am on Monday
17 May for a catch up and play. Pack a picnic lunch and bring bikes and scooters as there is plenty of
room to ride around the park.
Hope to see you there! Nicole Brown, Cooper's Mum (KW).
Rotary
Our school invited to join the other schools in the district to have the students enter a Mothers’ Day
drawing competition. The winning entries belong to Alex Bennet in Stage 1, Claudia Pacella and
Kaitlin Wagner in Kindergarten. Congratulations to these students. They will each receive a book
voucher from Dymocks Books and their work will be on display in either Dymocks or the ANZ branch
at Rouse Hill Town Centre. We’d like to thank Rotary for including us in their project and look
forward to many other ways that we can be involved with Rotary and their good work.
Kinder helpers.
Kinder teachers are still in need of helpers for literacy block. We welcome all parents and grandparents
or anyone you know who might like to help in the classroom environment.
Helpers are still needed for the ongoing task of book covering. Thank you to Sara Wagner, Nicole
Brooke and Rachael Corliss who have taken over this mammoth task. If anyone else is able to take
books home to cover, that would be appreciated.
Absentee Notes
Quite a number of children have had a tummy bug (vomiting) which then develops into a flutype of condition. Please keep your child home if they are saying that they don’t feel well.
In the current climate, this is probably true. Just a reminder that if your child is away from
school for any reason, upon their return a written note must be sent to school stating the particular day/s
and the reason eg, due to illness, for family reasons etc. This note is attached to the class roll and is a
legal requirement of all schools.

U7s OLA Soccer Team – Sports Report
Jordan V.: On Saturday we played again a Year 3 ‘bird’ team.
Angelina C.: I’m a defender and I cleared the ball five times.
Alex B.: I scored a goal.
Will M.: I got the ball kicked into my face but Angelina’s dad took
me off for a rest and I felt better.
Jake E: I was goalie and I saved a goal when the ball hit me in the
knee.
Luke R.: The final score was 10-4. We didn’t win
but we had fun.
Pictured left -OLA U7s soccer team, with some
‘supporters’.
Next week we hope to have a report from the U6 team. Any parents with a
photo, please send it in to go with the story.
Uniform
We still have had no luck with knee high navy socks from our
supplier. At the meeting, some parents said they have seen
them at Lowes, Big W, etc. By all means, if you see them buy
them for your daughter. There was some question about which
brand stay up effectively and, from my experience, none of
them does. An elastic garter to go under the fold down is the
answer (not too tight, though). Please note that the tracksuit is
designed to be worn with the sports uniform and the woollen
jumper with the normal uniform while the bomber jacket is
suitable for extra warmth on top of both uniforms.
Literacy Hint –
Reading should be enjoyable for you and your child.
If your child becomes distressed or loses interest
when reading at home, take a break from reading
and try again later.
All children, regardless of age, like to be
read to. Make a special time whenever
possible for reading with your child away
from interruptions.

School Fees
All families should have
received their accounts from
the CEO by now. Fees are due
to be paid by 21st May and can
now be paid by Bpay as well as
EFTPOS, cash or cheque. If
you are experiencing any

a divorce? How much does it cost? How long does it take?

process of Annulment of a marriage within the Catholic
Church. These and many other questions are answered on
