their families who have joined the Kirkbrae family over this past
season. I would also like to thank our entire membership for the
support you show to the club all year long. As a club, we work
hard to identify the amenities that the club can best provide
for our members. On the golf course, in the club house, at the
pool, with our social programs and through daily services, our
mission is guided by the satisfaction and interaction of the
membership at large. The greatest asset the club enjoys is the
support and dedication of our membership, thank you.

As Kirkbrae Country Club makes the transition from the many summer activities
to the fall and winter season I would like to update everyone on some upcoming
activities and events.
By now you have seen the transformation of the thirteenth green and fairway.
The changes should be complete by now and hopefully we can have the same fall
and spring weather as last year. If the weather cooperates the green should be
ready for opening day.
Recently the house and property just north of our parking lot has been put on
the market for sale. The Board of Governors has executed a purchase and sales
agreement for the property. The primary purpose of the acquisition is to preserve
and enhance the value of our club. The house has an easement through our
parking lot and cars can come and go while we are conducting our club events.
This November 17th is the member’s annual meeting. It will be especially
important for all to attend. In addition to the elections of four members to the
Board a special vote to authorize the purchase of the property will be necessary.
The Board has received tentative approval for a mortgage to finance the purchase
so that there will not be a need for any assessment.
During the remainder of the year we can experience some of the finest golf conditions
of the year and I would encourage all to get out and enjoy this time of year. If you’re
not golfing this fall try to take advantage of the many special events we have for the
various holidays. There are activities for children as well as the families.
On a final note Mr. Carl Lisa will be leaving the Board of Governors after the
November election. His leaving is term limited and not because he is tired of
serving. While he will not be on the Board his ongoing involvement with long
range planning will continue.
TIMOTHY FLANAGAN, GENERAL MANAGER
We have made great plans for the fall and winter here at the club. In this newsletter
you will find information for family events, wine dinners, holidays and social events.
Be sure to check out the kids parties for Halloween, Christmas and the winter
wonderland party (new event!) in January.
Thanksgiving and the Christmas Season will also be celebrated in usual fashion. In
addition to the Members Christmas Party (la Vigilia) we have added the Holiday
Soiree as a more casual way to celebrate the season. All the information is also

available on our website Kirkbrae.com. I kindly as that you please plan ahead with
reservations so that we may serve you better.
We have transitioned the dining room for the winter season and have made some
great changes to our menus. We have reworked the breakfast menu into a brunch
menu for Saturdays and Sundays; added some more breakfast favorites and some
great brunch items. We also have a family style breakfast available that is great for
big parties! Our dinner menu has been seasonally updated and we will continue
to offer buffet nights and prime rib nights each month. We have also tailored bar
menu to provide for many appetizers, wings, pizzas, burgers and sandwiches ideal
for catching all of the college, NFL and NBA action.

More and more, we have provided members with party platters for at home
entertaining. Kirkbrae now provides pickup catering platters which will be
available with advanced notice. Items will be available in half and full sizes. It’s a
great way to entertain at home or as a “family style” dinner takeout. Menus will be
available online or at the hostess desk.
Our event business continues to be strong. As trends change, event planning
and execution evolve along with it. Our staff continues to provide premier event
services on every level. From planning to execution I am proud to say that our
staff is “the best in the business”. Kirkbrae is proud to again be the recipient of
many industry awards for weddings and events. In addition, we are also proud
of two distinctions from RI Monthly readers’ poll. Nick Bray and our culinary staff
awarded as Best Wedding Caterer and Tiffany Marsocci awarded Best Wedding
Planner. Congratulations to those individuals and all the staff that make our
events first class.
I look forward to seeing you all over the next few months. To our members traveling
this winter, we look forward to seeing you around the holidays and in the spring.

Well, it’s amazing to realize that Fall is already upon us. In our last newsletter I
wrote about the upcoming schedule, events, etc. and now most of them are in the
rear-view mirror…what a whirlwind it has been!!
But as we start to wake up to chilly mornings (there’s nothing better, in my
opinion), don’t abandon your golf game. Fall is always one of the best times of
year to enjoy the game—the kids are back in school, the oppressive heat of the
summer is gone, and the bone-chilling cold of winter approaching. I urge everyone
to take advantage of the ideal conditions that await over the next 30-60 days and play
one more round of golf this Fall than you did last year.

We all know that sometimes it is difficult to shake the rust off our games when
springtime rolls around. But when someone tells me that in March or April and I
ask them when was the last time they played, the answer I usually hear is “Oh, Labor
Day (or Columbus Day) or so…” Take six months off from anything you do and try
to jump right back in…it’s not going to happen too smoothly at the start (e.g.—the
gym on January 2nd!!). But if you shrink the gap of inactivity—say by a couple
months—the ability to bounce back is enhanced exponentially. Well, make 2016 the
year that you shrink the gap and play a little bit more this autumn. Your game will
not only improve this year, but it will help you come out swinging (less per round,
hopefully) in the Spring.
As an added bonus to those who play this fall, you will have a front-row seat to
one of the most-requested projects the club has ever undertaken—the demolition
(and rebuilding) of the 13th green. What has for years been the “white elephant”
of the golf course will be no more, as work will continue through October on the
13th hole. The course’s reputation of “impossible greens” to outsiders has always
started with that little beast on the backside of the golf course. I think I speak
for the entire membership in saying that I look forward to next Spring when my
4-foot downhill putt doesn’t end up 10 feet off the green??
Please don’t “be a stranger” over the next few months-- keep your eyes “peeled” for our
fall and holiday events both on the course and in the golf shop. If you don’t receive
our weekly email updates, please let me know
and I will make sure your name is added to the list. I truly hope 2016 was your best
golf season ever…and we are already working on making 2017 even better.
And to close, the same as in the Spring… I hope to see you on the course!!!

It seems like only yesterday that I was welcoming back the membership to a new
year. Yet, here we are with the season winding down. It has been a very long
season for us going back to the very early start in March and winding through a
long summer that was big on heat and short on rainfall. Our weather statistics
can be measured somewhere in between Boston and Providence. In Boston, it
was the hottest summer ever recorded and the driest summer ever recorded.
In Providence, they recorded the 2nd hottest summer with August being the
hottest ever and 2nd driest. I’m sure you’re getting the picture. You need only to
look at the small trickle rolling over the dam at the Albion mills apartments, the
Blackstone River as low as I’ve seen it. It has been a bear to work through but the
guys were magnificent as usual. They are the very best at what they do.

So that all being said, I would like to thank all of you for taking the time to reach
out to my staff and the cards of thanks (WOW!) that have been written. It is always
great when hard work is acknowledged and appreciation is shown. If there was
ever a season where the guys (and gal) deserved it, this was certainly it.
At this writing, the renovation is nearly complete of the thirteenth hole. Preconstruction meetings have been held, trees cleared, the fairway already reshaped and plenty of anxiety on my part. You always want things to go smoothly
and then have everyone enjoy the finished project. After the tremendous success
of #7, the bar has once again been raised on us. That said, the more we do these
renovations, the more refined we should become in producing a top grade project
with as little interference to the members as possible. After the departure of the
construction crew comes the work of the Kirkbrae greens staff in the process of
growing in the new sod and the smoothing of the playing surfaces. There will be
a little more work for us this time around as we also are doing tees and fairway
bunkers as well. All said, this should be a very exciting project which will keep the
membership energized and also continue to draw in new members as well. This
is the best marketing tool money can buy. It’s a statement that says we are not
satisfied, that we want better and we know how to get there. What more could a
potential golf member ask for. So, let’s continue our march and get rolling!! Enjoy
your fall golf everyone.

Fall is a wonderful season for golf so continue to play. We had a very
successful season of Thursday tournaments. Thank you to all who
participated who made it so enjoyable.
Special thanks for a great season to our Tournament Chair, Terry Beck, Mike
Bradshaw and his pro shop staff, Tim Flanagan and his staff, Maria our locker
room attendant, Mark Richard and his staff for the great condition of our
golf course and all of the KWGA members and their guests. We had four
member-guest tournaments which were well attended and enjoyed.
Congratulations to Michelle Scoggins, our 2016 Women’s Club Champion and
to all who participated in our Club Championship Sunday. It was a fun event.
Fall brought our last big event of the year, The Kirkbrae Cup. This was
followed by the annual ABCD and annual meeting to close out the year.
Thank you to all who participated and attended. These events capped of a
great season of competition and camaraderie.
I would like to thank my KWGA Board for all of their efforts and support.
