COMPUTER LAB POLICY AND GUIDELINES
Usage of the computer lab should be considered a privilege and not a right. Please take care to read, understand and abide by the lab policy and guidelines.
Take note:
Lab staff reserves the right to cancel and/or suspend their user privileges or may ask user to leave the lab if such person does not comply with
these policy and guidelines. His/her particulars may be taken down and send to respective AGs / Department for further action.
2. If any of the activities in the computer lab is threatening or otherwise disruptive to other users, staff has the authority to ask those responsible to
leave or to call the campus security.
3. Please report if you suspect any user misuse of equipment or software to the lab staff.
4. Please alert staff or call campus security if you suspect any suspicious person loitering or unknown item not attended.

Lab and computer usage

Please book the computer in person with your valid card before using it.
Please be prepared to show your valid Matriculation card upon request at any time for verification purposes.
Use the computer for your academic course work, projects or your current academic research related matters only.
Hand phone or pager put to silence mode. (ringing tone set to lower volume)
Please be considerate of others who need to work. Speak quietly when conversing with others. Keep the areas around your workstation clean, clear and/or orderly.
Adjust the speaker’s volume down when playing music or multimedia content. Please provide your own headset.
One computer to a group of two or three users is encouraged for group activities. However, they should be careful not to disturb others using adjacent workstations.
Be sure to log-out the computer before you leave completely. Do not power off as this can cause damage to the equipment.
Before leaving, please push back the chair under the table. Please remember to check and take away your personal belongs.
Please remember to logoff when you finish using your Portal, Network account or any account that requires your username and password.
If your account is used for anything inappropriate or illegal (whether you were at the computer or not), you will be held responsible.
Please scan your personal backup medium (e.g. thumb drive, floppy or zip disks etc) for viruses checking to reduce virus infection to your data or to the system.
It is the responsibility of any user to backup the data into your own medium. The lab shall not be held responsible of any user’s data loss whatsoever in using the
equipment or accessories. Files stored in the local hard disk drive will be deleted without further notice.
When disconnecting your USB devices such as thumb drive, ext. hard disk drive or digital camera etc from the computer’s USB port, please perform proper, the
safely remove hardware steps, to prevent your device failure or loss of data.
Please approach lab staff if you need assistance or report problems of non-functioning hardware or software.
Relinquish systems with limited resources to other users if you are not using that resource (i.e. scanner).
Items found will be kept in custody for seven days regardless of important values.

Book and/or use the computer on behalf of other person.
Eat, drink or smoke in the lab.
Play any computer or internet games. Uses of network chat programs for other than the course activities are prohibited.
Use the computer lab resources to view and/or print sites or files which may be offensive to others.
Visit pornographic website or display of any obscene materials on screen and/or print.
Install software of any kind in the computer. If you feel justified in doing so please ask first. We may also require your Lecturer-In-Charge
to write us before doing the installation. Any such request should be make two weeks in advance.
Duplication or transferring data of copyrighted disks, software, or manuals.
Change the configuration or make modification to the system settings.
Attempt to repair or tamper with the computer equipment in any other way.
Connect, disconnect, open, or swap any components or accessories in the computer.
Remove or re-locate any equipments / furniture out of the lab.
Use fingers or any sharp object to direct attention onto the LCD screen. Fingerprint marks make the screen difficult for others to see.
Leave your personal belongings in the lab unattended. Lab staff will not be held responsible for the security, lost or stolen personal items.
Booked computers are not to be left unused for more than 15 minutes. Computers left unattended longer may be assumed to be available for
other user’s booking. Any processes running on computer will be terminated at the discrete of the lab staff. Lab staff shall not be held responsible
for any user’s data loss.
Printing:

Printers are self-served. Collect your own print jobs after payment.
Please file unclaimed print jobs near the printer. Pre-view the document or image you are about to print to avoid unnecessary copies and thus save your cost.
When submitting large or complex print jobs, users need to make sure that their jobs complete properly and not cause jams or hang ups.
If your print job does not print, please do not continue to re-send the job as this indicates a problem with either your print job or the printer.
Check with the Service Provider or the lab staff for assistance.
5. Papers (A4 size) are provided for printing. To use your own paper, please use recommended paper quality for printing. No refund of charges for own paper.
6. For printing transparency, please ask the Service Provider or lab staff for assistance.
7. Report any paper jam, toner or papers low to the lab staff or Service Provider.
