Hawaii Surf Team Selection 2017
The Hawaii Surf Team is building the next world championship team and this is your opportunity to be a part of the team.
The Hawaii coaches (Rainos Hayes, Jason Shibata, and Kekoa Bacalso ) have lead the team to the medal podium every
year and they are holding a 2 day selection process to start the building of next years team and develop future teams to
perpetuate the aloha spirit and bring home the gold. This is an opportunity to work with some of Hawaii's best coaches
and improve your surfing, contest preparation, and strategies. This is also a chance to learn what the judges at an
international level are looking for and how to fulfill the scoring criteria. With this training selection, next years team and the
teams to come will be ready to take on the surfing world at the next level!
The Hawaii Surf Team selection process will determine the qualifying squad comprised of six Boys U18, six Boys U16,
four Girls U18, and four Girls U16. The qualifying squad will participate in the training camps through the rest of the
season and the final active squad of four Boys U18, four Boys U16, two Girls U18, and two girls U16 will be picked during
summer. The Vissla ISA World Junior Championships will be held in Hyuga, Japan September 23 thru October 1.
Below are the four elements that make up the HST Selection Criteria, these elements will be used in all camps and will
ultimately determine the final team:
• International ISA, WSL Star and Pro Junior events along with results in the Surfing America
Championships and NSSA National Championships along with results in the HSA State
Championships, NSSA Regional Championships with consideration of ratings from HSA, NSSA,
and WSL Pro Junior events.
• The ability to produce excellent scores.
• The ability to process information, accept feedback, follow directions and adapt to both
changing situations and conditions. Coach-ability.
• Attitude, Maturity, and the ability to work with others, all while perpetuating the "Aloha Spirit"!

Time: morning session 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, afternoon session 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Again please meet at Ehukai.
Divisions: Boys Under 18, Boys Under 16, Girls Under 18, and Girls Under 16
Fee: $175 check payable to “Hawaii Surfing Association World Team” (bring check to the beach) * Includes all 4
sessions (morning and afternoon), taking place on both Saturday and Sunday.

LIABILITY RELEASE INDEMNITY AGREEMENT~AGREEMENT OF PARTICIPATION:
I acknowledge that surfing and related activities are hazardous activities and that I have made a voluntary choice to participate in those activities despite the risks that they present, inconsideration of my being
permitted to participate in the Hawaii Surf Team selection camps. I agree to assume any and all risk of injury or death, which might be associated with or result from my participation in the surf camps. I
understand that this waiver holds harmless the Hawaii Surf Team, the Hawaii Surfing Association, Sponsors, and Promoters of the selection camps listed as well as all members, administrators, officials and
officers of the above mentioned parties from all/any liability for injuries and damage whatsoever arising from my presence or participation in the event. I, the undersigned have carefully read and understood this
agreement and all of its terms. I understand that this is a release of liability, which will legally prevent me or any other person from filing suit or making any other legal claim from damages in the event of my
death or any injury to me. I also agree to conduct myself in a professional and sportsmanlike manner before, during, after and while I am in the vicinity of all Hawaii Surf Team related events. I agree that I will
review the rules and regulations or any unprofessional or un-sportsmanlike conduct will be cause for immediate disqualification from the event at the discretion of the President or the Executive Director of the
Hawaii Surf Team. I understand that all entry fees are non-transferable and non-refundable. I further agree that the Hawaii Surf Team or any other subsidiary or affiliate there, may photograph me on film or
tape, and recorded my voice conversation and sounds during and in connection with the event. I agree that the Hawaii Surf Team or any such subsidiary or affiliate shall be the sole owner of the results and
proceeds of such portions thereof and my name, voice, likeness and biographical material and editorial comment concerning may be used, published, displayed or copy righted in any and every form style, size or
color by the Hawaii Surf Team. It’s subsidiary or affiliated, their successors and assigns, or by any other person, corporation or association duty authorized by the Hawaii Surf Team or any such subsidiary or
affiliate, without any restriction or limitation whatsoever, forever and throughout the world in all media, including without imitation print, radio, motion pictures, television, and video cassettes, when use in
connection with the advertising series or any of the event. We would like to have all competitors be aware of the ocean and its environments, the Hawaii Surf Team would like everyone to participate in beach
clean-ups to pick up trash and rubbish in area.
