Enlist the help of a Scout who has been to summer camp who can tell everyone how much fun it is during the promotion. 2. Enlist the help of various Den Leaders to assist with the activities of the night (one to be in charge of the snack/craft, one to be in charge of the game, etc.) 3. Review craft, game, and promotion with Den Leaders to ensure they can effectively run the activity 4. Set up the room (see next page for further instructions) 5. Set your camp date at www.goscouting.org so you can promote this date at your meetings (contact Ryan McDonald – [email protected] if you have questions) 3 Goscouting.org Room Set up Making your space feel like camp!! Tables You can set the tables up so they look like picnic tables would in a campsite using all or some of the following things: Red checkered table clothes Camping lanterns Plastic bugs or animals Props around the Room Try adding these things around the room: Put Sasquatch footprints throughout the room Set up a small tent or two and put sleeping bags in them Set up some camp chairs or a hammock Create a fake fire using and electric lantern, logs, and twigs Dim lights to make a twilight feel Play the Cub Camping video if possible (available from scout office) Have your pack specific fliers available with your camp information 4 Goscouting.org Meeting Agenda 1. Gathering – bring everyone into your meeting space and let them look around the cool camping decorations 2. Opening – Welcome everyone and make mention of the camping decorations and why the decorations are up 3. Program a. Recognition – Advancements and Awards b. Snack – S’micros c. Craft – Emergency S’micros kit d. Game – Changing Campsites 4. Cub Scout Camping Promotion – Get the whole pack excited about the Cub Scout Camp opportunities. Make sure they know when you’re going and how to sign up. 5. Skit – Get the older scouts or parents involved by having them do a skit when you gather everyone up again. 6. Closing 5 Goscouting.org Craft and Snack S’micros and Emergency S’micros Kits S’micros Ingredients: Teddy Grahams Mini Marshmallows Chocolate Chips Supplies: Matches (strike anywhere) Toothpicks Recipe: 1. Place your mini marshmallow on a toothpick 2. Strike a match and roast your marshmallow over the match flame (candles can be used as well) 3. Place marshmallow in between two Teddy Grahams with a chocolate chip 4. Enjoy!! Emergency S’micros Kit Simply take all the supplies needed to create a S’micro and place it in a small plastic jewelry bag. This kit may be taken anywhere for an emergency snack when a scout is hungry. 6 Goscouting.org Game Changing Campsites Materials needed: Chairs Paper to write your camping words Tape Instructions 1. Arrange chairs in a circle. There should be enough chairs for everyone in the group but one person (for example, if you have 10 people there should be 9 chairs). 2. Tape your camping words on the backrest of each chair. There should be at least two of every word (the larger the group, the more times a single word will repeat). 3. One person stands in the middle and calls out one of the words. Every person who is sitting on a chair with that word has to get up and switch chairs. The person in the middle will try to get to a chair before the others. The person who does not find a chair will now be in the middle. The rules will repeat with the new person in the middle. 4. If someone yells Sasquatch, everyone must get up and switch chairs. 5. There is no end to the game. You can stop playing whenever the group feels like stopping. 7 Goscouting.org Pack Summer Camp Presentation Cheat Sheet 1. Gather kids around and present them the poster of activities. Have them select what they would like to do at camp. Get the parents involved by showing them the sample schedule. 2. Theme for Cub Camp 2015 a. The theme for the 2015 season is “Wild West” b. Every scout is challenged to get a photo with Sasquatch while at camp, or at other Council events. 3. Promote the camp your pack is attending - Camp: ________________ 4. Promote the date your pack is attending camp - Date: _________ 5. Fees (pack specific – depends on fundraising) a. $______ per person (youth and adult) b. Fees cover food, housing, crafts, program supplies, a patch, and staffing. c. Compared to other organizations our fees are very reasonable for the program that you receive 6. Payment Policy (Pack specific) a. You must pay the pack $______ up front to reserve your spot b. We will be reserving our spots on January ____ (shortly after January Pack meeting) c. Scout 1: I am putting on my tennis shoes. Scout 2: I can see that, why are you putting on your tennis shoes? Scout 1: Sasquatch is coming into camp. Scout 2: How will tennis shoes help. You can’t outrun a Sasquatch, even in tennis shoes! Scout 1: I know I can’t outrun Sasquatch, but I don’t have to. I just have to outrun you! So I can get my photo with Sasquatch first.
