Tiggy Tiger
to the rescue
O
Short story
nce upon a time, there lived a
poor old grandma who made delicious pakoras and samosas
every morning. She would put them in a
basket and take them to sell in the market. Though she had to pass through a
thick dark forest to reach the market,
grandma was not afraid. Do you know
why this was? Grandma had a good
friend in the forest, called Tiggy, the tiger.
Grandma gave Tiggy the biggest samosas
and hottest pakoras every day, and so, he
made sure that she crossed the forest
safely. One day, when grandma reached
the forest, she remembered that she had
forgotten to bring the samosas she had
made. So she left her basket under a tree
and went back home to get them. By the
time she returned to the forest, she had
quite forgotten where she had left the basket. Poor grandma was really worried
when Tiggy came along.
“Why are you looking so anxious,
grandma?” Tiggy asked. When grandma
explained her problem, Tiggy offered to
find the basket for her. As he looked
around, he spotted a line of ants marching towards something. Tiggy followed
the marching ants, and they led him
straight to the foot of a tree where the
basket was lying! Tiggy quickly showed
grandma the basket was. “Grandma,
every day you give me samosas and
pakoras from your basket. Today, it was
my turn to give you this basket full of
goodies!”
“If you had not helped me, I would still
be hunting for my basket,” grandma
agreed happily. She then gave Tiggy an
extra large helping of his favourite
treats, and he led her out of the forest.
Moral: Kindness is always rewarding.

The season of rain

The season of rain
Coming like a train,
Arriving very soon,
Known as monsoon.
In water, children play
Both happy and gay,
To enjoy life,
This is a beautiful way.
Peacocks dance and frogs jump,
When there is rain no need of water
pumps.
The monsoon season,
To waddle in water is a good reason.
Making wet the brambly patch,
Postponing the cricket match.
Pitter-patter on the window panes,
Filling the brimming river,
Coolness and joy make children shiver.
A Siberian find
So enjoy the season of rain,
Which is soon coming like a train.

ammoth- Meaning: Large,
hairy, extinct elephants of the
genus Mammuthus, especially the woolly mammoth. Something
of great size. adj. of enormous size;
huge. Origin : 1802
Until the presidency of Thomas Jefferson,
mammoth had been just the name of a
huge extinct elephant-like creature whose
bones had been discovered in many
places on the continent. It was a Russian
name, borrowed into English in the previous century for a similar animal whose
remains had been found in Siberia.
History : It’s not until 1803 that we find
a quotation referring to mammoths in the
West (when a mammoth skeleton was
exhibited as a curiosity at the Royal
Academy in London). Later quotations
from the nineteenth century and later
Words worth
come from literature and technical texts,
showing that the word had become by
then more familiar to English-speakers.
Etymology says that mammoth entered
English by way of the old Russian word
mamant, found in a phrase which means
‘mammoth’s bone’ ― not surprisingly,
This is life

I dedicate this poem to my
friend Atreyo Mitra (AIS

me to write my first poem.
A Child
I originated one night
To grow and fight
To fight against the rules
To fight against the law
I dreamt,
To be the ultimate
I wanted to be one in all
To know what I didn’t
know
To feel what I had never
felt
To live in a place just
meant for me
People said - “I am limited to my dreams” / “I am
impractical”
They told this and that
And deep inside myself
I started feeling sad
Afraid of darkness
Afraid of failure
But it was then that i realised
That it was my family
That supported me
That gave me courage to
dream
Courage to understand
And courage to fight
After Maturing
And now I feel
I have done
I have understood
Satisfied with what I had
Satisfied with what I
didn’t
I had a dream
But it changed
Changed gradually with
time
As I moved on
I realised
This is life.
since it was as a result of the discovery of
mammoth bones that the prehistoric animal first came to the notice of modern
observers. The etymology shows that the
Russian word is recorded from 1578.
Usage: Gone are the days when the
desktop were mammoth (huge) in size
and monitors of the size of televisions.
