their shattered, altered life and twist of fate,

child (Sofia Vassilieva - TV’s “Medium”) who appears

Melora Walters is perhaps best known today for her role on HBO’s
Emmy and Golden Globe nominated series “Big Love”, playing
Wanda Henrickson, the eccentric sister-in-law of Boll Henrickson
(Bill Paxton).
Film audiences, however, have taken note of her considerable
talent in a number of critically acclaimed films of director Paul
Thomas Anderson, notably her haunting performance as the
drug-addicted yet sympathetic Claudia in Magnolia, who had also
cast her in his Academy Award® nominated film Boogie Nights

Born in Saudi Arabia, Walters spent part of her childhood in

active in sports and dance, both of which helped shape her desire
to perform. After studying abroad, she returned to America to
pursue her career as an artist at the Pratt Institute in New York.
With the encouragement of her art professors, Walters began to
write plays and experiment with acting. With persistence and
determination, she soon found her way to the legendary Actor’s
Studio and she began performing in various off-broadway
productions, including “Scream and Dances of the Bronx Bear”
and “Burt Lancaster” at the Manhattan Class Company.
Walters has also made many other appearances on the small
screen. Her television credits include “push Nevada,” “L.A.

JACKSON RATHBONE –
CONRAD
COLTRANE
Young actor Jackson Rathbone (Twilight) had his heart set on a
future in classical theater and was heading for the Royal
Scottish Academy when he signed with Cutler Management
while giving L.A. and the film industry a try for the summer.
He soon landed a recurring role on “Disney 411” interviewing
Disney Channel stars, such as Hillary Duff and Raven Baxter.
When the fall came, Cutler persuaded Rathbone to stay in L.A.
and pursue a film career rather than attend The Royal Scottish
Academy. Taking her advise, he settled in for the long haul and
booked several commercials right off the bat as well as
substantial roles in TV including “Close to Home” an MOW for
Hallmark, “The OC,” and “The War at Home,” a pilot where he
played Sherry Stringer’s son. Rathbone was also cast in several
independent films, including a part in the feature Molding Clay,
and a role in Pray for Morning, an independent thriller from
writer/director Cartney Wearn. From there he landed a series
regular role in “Beautiful People” for ABC Family. Rathbone was
chosen by Girl’s Life Magazine as “The Hottie” and has also
been featured in Popstar and Ellegirl.
Born in Singapore, Rathbone was lucky to live in various places
around the world because of his father’s job. The family then
moved to Indonesia, and lived in London, Connecticut,
California, Norway, and finally settled in Texas, where Rathbone
joined The Pickwick Players, the youth actors program at the
local community theatre.
In addition to many extra-curricular activities, including
basketball, track, soccer, baseball and the official pastime of
Texas, football, Rathbone, a passionate musician, also started a
band and a mobile DJ business. However, he decided to focus
on what made him the happiest and enrolled in the prestigious
Interlochen Arts Academy as a high school theatre major where
he flourished in Shakespeare. He performed in the Southwest
Shakespeare Festival as Ferdinand in "The Tempest".
In his off-time, Rathbone writes music. He's performed at small
open-mic nights and recently booked a gig at The Gardenia in
Hollywood. Rathbone has recently formed a production
company with his manager where he hopes to find interesting
projects and eventually, one day, even direct.

AVA GAUDET –
ELISE MONTOYA
Most recently seen on the runaway hit TV comedy "Ugly Betty,"
as well as a starring role opposite Ving Rhames in the upcoming
thriller Evil Angel, Ava Gaudet possesses that rare combination
of versatility on screen as well as considerable talents as a
singer and dancer who has proven her métier on Broadway.
Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Gaudet has
performing hard-wired into her DNA: the daughter of a jazz
musician/composer, and an actress, she began dancing at age
three, and continued diligent and dedicated study of ballet, tap,
jazz, theater dance and hip-hop until adulthood. As a teenager,
she began acting in local theaters and was a lead actress in her
high school's musicals. Until this time, dance still dominated her
time training, but acting had sparked her interest enough to be
her major in college. She was accepted into the BFA acting
program at New York's Marymount Manhattan College.
After two successful years at Marymount, Ava became
passionate about a lifelong interest in songwriting and
recording. It wasn't long before Gaudet followed in her brother
and father's footsteps by enrolling full-time at the prestigious
Berklee College of Music in Boston. She was a voice principal,
building her vocal chops, and honing her songwriting and
performance skills. She wrote and released her first EP,
"Supergirl" and performed with her band throughout
Providence, Boston and New York garnering local notoriety and
regional attention.
Gaudet never gave up her love for acting and dancing
throughout this time, and stayed involved in theater and film
projects. She released her second EP of original music, and
supported herself by singing in upscale event bands.
She then landed the role of Maureen in the National Tour of
"Rent". Soon after the tour closed she made her Broadway
debut when she took over the same role in the Broadway
company of "Rent” and became the first actress in the show's
history to be a permanent principal actress and also understudy
the role of Mimi.
Gaudet is based in Los Angeles and continues to work in
theater, TV, and film. She is also collaborating with

"But the child's sob curses deeper in the
silence than the strong man in his wrath..."
– Elizabeth Barrett Browning
THE STORY
Amidst a swirling zephyr of dust and exhaust, a family emerges from a
weather-beaten truck to attempt to reconstruct their lives in the
middle of the desolate Arizona desert. The shattering loss of Robert,
the father, has left a gaping hole in the fabric of the family's life. But
before these grief-stricken individuals - Helen (Melora Walters), the
delicate, newly widowed mother, and Conrad (Jackson Rathbone) and
Lenore (Johanna E. Braddy), her teenage children - are able to heal,
several more threads in the fabric will loosen and cause their lives to
unravel in ways no one could foresee...
Although it would be possible to characterize HURT as a thriller, or to
consider placing it in the horror genre, at its heart, it is a family
drama, and one that is told principally from the vantage point of
considerable loss and personal tragedy. Yet as with many stories that
strike a universal chord, HURT transcends genre categorization, while
displaying certain elements that season the best of the thriller genus.
Unable to maintain their former lifestyle, the Coltrane family has been
forced back upon themselves and must turn to Uncle Darryl (William
Mapother), Robert's brother, for shelter and sustenance at his home
on a desert salvage yard. The arid landscape, with its ramshackle
house, decaying automobile carcasses and wolves skulking nearby
after nightfall, is scarcely the haven any of them would have sought
out. Yet they have no recourse, and each of them seeks to carve out a
corner of sanity.
Darryl, who has nursed an unrequited longing for Helen for decades, is
all too willing to help - even if it means accepting her children as part
of the pact. Yet it is with the arrival of the enigmatic, precocious Sarah
(Sofia Vassilieva), a foster child Robert had pledged to take in, that
the fissures in the family foundation are etched in starker relief.
From director Barbara Stepansky, co-writing with veteran screenwriter
Alison lea Bingeman, comes a feature debut presenting a tightly-knit
ensemble, all of whom are reeling from - and defined by - HURT. An
emotionally tense, character-driven tale that offers, by turns, varying
points-of-view on their common misfortune, HURT offers exceptional
performances from seasoned actors as well as talented newcomers.
HURT
A WOMAN’S PERSPECTIVE
From the outset, the film's producers, Eduardo levy and James Martin,
who created the original story upon which the screenplay is based,
were committed to presenting a film that featured strong female
characters with their particular point-of-view. In fact, their newly
formed production company, High Treason Productions, had been
established with this commitment a key component of the company's
mandate. "One common thread in the different projects we are
developing is the inclusion of very evolved female characters,"
explains Levy, adding that there are surprisingly few such roles and
stories circulating in the film marketplace.
For this reason, although the initial drafts of the story would bear
much in common with the final one, both Martin and levy saw the
wisdom of soliciting authentic female perspectives by employing
women in key positions behind the camera. In addition to Stepansky,
the producers hired Nicki Orlandou as line producer, Kelly Wagner as
casting director, and Rita da Silva as film editor, each of whom
brought considerable talents to the production.
Of course, Stepansky's tremendous input in re-writing the script and
ultimately directing it was central to securing the female "take" on the
story, which in addition to the male characters, focuses to a large
extent on a recently widowed mother and her relationship to her
oppositional teenage daughter and an intelligent, though very
wounded, pre-adolescent girl. The nuanced representation of these
several stages of womanhood, and the dynamics of their interaction,
would seem all the more true-to-life with a woman at the helm.
"Based on the original story, ideas of the film's producers, we wanted
to create a simple family tragedy within the structure of a commercial
suspense thriller with a literal iceberg of back story", explains
Stepansky, "the challenge was to keep the balance of tension and
suspicion in the first half of the script equally strong between the
possible antagonists and to have that back story seep in subtly but
clearly."
