Message from the Alice Smith Kitchen Congratulations Geography Bee Contestants Our Community Reads Schedule Your Pre -School Screening The Royal Cuisine staff is asking for parents help. We find that some of our students are purchasing ala carte items (including milk, fruit, extra bread or dessert) and then find they do not have money in their accounts. If a student does not have funds in their lunch account, they will not be able to purchase these ala carte items. Parents can check their students' balance on www.paypams.com <http://www.paypams.com>, as well as deposit funds or view items their student has taken. Parents can call the kitchen directly at 952988-4207 to learn their student’s lunch balance. Hopkins Community Coalition One Voice for Reducing Chemical Use by Youth Your child is constantly watching and learning from you even at a young age. Surveys of youth consistently show that you are the most influential factor in your child’s life. Sure TV, magazines, the Internet, movies, sports stars, and their peers influence them to varying degrees, but none come close to the amount of influence you have through your words and actions. The nonverbal messages all start at a young age. Be a healthy role model! What Does It Mean To Be A Healthy Role Model? °If you use alcohol, do it in moderation, within legal and healthy guidelines. If you smoke or chew tobacco, attempt to quit for your own health and the health of others in your home. Never use illegal drugs. °Host family gatherings and parties that don’t always include alcohol. It’s important to show youth that you can have fun whether or not alcohol is served. °Promote alcohol free gatherings after youth sporting events with other team parents. °Don’t share funny stories about your past substance use in front of your child. °Show healthy ways to relieve stress other than turning to alcohol to cope with problems. °Always designate a safe and sober driver. °Talk. Do not assume that your children know your position on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use. Talk early. Remind them, over and over, that it is not acceptable to use these substances. °Invest your time. The time you spend with your children shows them your values. Spending time with your children demonstrates to them that you care about them and their lifestyle choices. The actions of a parent speaker louder than words ... Our youth are watching.
