Over the same period, more than two billion people are likely to enter the middle class, with the majority of them living in cities in emerging markets. The number of megacities with more than ten million people will continue to grow. Congestion is already close to unbearable in many cities and can cost as much as 2% to 4% of GDP by measures such as lost time, wasted energy and increased cost of doing business. Many new members of the global middle class will want access to cars. Some analysts project automobile sales could increase from around 88m a year today to 125m by 2025, with more than half forecast to be purchased in cities. The existing urban infrastructure cannot support such an increase in vehicles on the road. Congestion is already close to unbearable in many cities and can cost as much as 2% to 4% of GDP by measures such as lost time, wasted energy and increased cost of doing business. Solving the urban mobility challenge calls for bold, coordinated actions from the automotive industry, mobility operators and the public sector. Technological advances along with new approaches to funding, urban policy-making, and businessmodel innovation will be needed to keep us moving efficiently around cities that are safe, clean and liveable. The goal of the City Car Summit is to bring together some of the very best new research, thinking and solutions aimed at making cars better suited for urban environments and finding new ways to harness big data and connectivity to provide urban consumers with smart, integrated, profitable mobility services on demand. We are privileged to have presentations from more than 30 of the world’s leading experts and entrepreneurs in the urban mobility field. Please take every opportunity to ask questions, contribute ideas and participate in the discussions during the sessions and the networking breaks. Thank you for joining us and for being part of the growing global effort to engineer next generation mobility for the benefit of people everywhere. www.citycarsummit.com Programme Tuesday 15 March 08.00 Registration 09:00 Moderator 14:00 Carsharing in Cities: What Customers Want, What Cities Ian Dickie Expect and What Carmakers & Mobility Operators Automotive Knowledge Associates Need to Know Dr. Bodo Schwieger Opening Keynote Speech General Manager, team red Deutschland GmbH Eva Molnar The New Role of Car Design for Car 2.0 Director Transport Division, UNECE Sam Livingstone Carless Whisper: the End of an Industry as we Know it?
