Course Description:
This course introduces the accounting system for a large size company where the special journals and
subsidiary ledgers are used. It covers the major characteristics and accounting entries for formation and
profit distribution of partnerships and corporations. Financial statements analysis is also included.
Classifications of manufacturing costs and the flow of costs in a job order costing system and a process
costing system, and break-even analysis are also covered.
Course Objectives:
1. Analyze and record transactions for large-size companies.
2. Analyze, record and report transactions for partnerships and corporations.
3. Analyze and interpret financial statements.
4. Analyzing financial statements.
5. Summarize and apply basic financial and managerial accounting terms, concepts and principles.
6. Analyze the break-even point.

Course Outcomes:
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
1. Handle records of large size companies.
2. Analyze financial statements.
3. Determine the unit cost for both job order and process systems.
4. Recognize company's formation (both partnership and corporation), and distribution of their
profits.
Attendance:
Attendance is very important to achieve the best possible understanding of the course material since topics
are closely related. Additionally, students who miss more than 25% of classes will fail the class and receive a
DN grade.

Exams:
There are two periodic exams and one final exam that will add up to 90% of the class grades. Makeup exams
will be granted only for students with an approved absence. So, make sure not to miss any of those exams.
Assignments & Participation:
The purpose of those assignments is to increase students understanding of the material. Exercises will be
determined at the end of each chapter period, which has been identified in the distributable time table (see
page 4 & 5). All assignments should be done ON TIME and INDIVIDUALLY and presented one week after the
announcement. NOTE: late assignments will not be accepted.
Academic Dishonesty:
Any student committing an act that violates academic dishonesty and integrity (e.g. Cheating) will be
subject to sanctions as described in King Abdulaziz University’s code of ethics.
