N. Patchogue ballet school
awaits its day in court
Twenty-seven thousand dollars
and seven-and-a-half years after
they first began to defend
themselves , Lorna and Mario
Antomni will be back in court
once again next week to argue
why they should not be prevented
from operating a ballet school
from their hom e on Sunrise Highway
The latest case , brought on
behalf of the Town of Brookhaven
by Special Town Attorney C.
Francis Giaccone , charges that
the couple is violating zoning
ordinances
because
their
property, located near a major
thoroughfare , is being used for
commercial purposes
The
property is zoned residential
"This should cost us another
one or two thousand dollars ,"
said Lorna Antonini , yesterday
She said the latest court action
brought against the school , which
is also the home of a non-profit
ballet company, had almost
made her and her husband decide
to close their facility down
"We received the summons
Pro-GOP
and people were so upset that we
were going to drop the sponge
that we decided not to , " said Mrs.
Antonini , age 73 More than 650
signatures have been collected on
a petition prot esting the possible
closing of the school.
The Antonims bought their
property, located near Shore Drive
and Clio Place , from the Sisters
of Charity in 1956. In 1964, they
moved their ballet school from a
down town Patchogue location to
a practice room they had con structed in their home According
to Mrs. Antonini , the coupl e
believed that they had permission to use the property for a
non-conforming use . That "use" ,
if the town 's case is upheld , does
not include the ballet school or an
outdoor practice area .
The Antonims non -profit ballet
company , the G.A.J R. Family
Ballet , Ltd., is scheduled to
perform at Carnegie Hall on
Monday The company also
performs each summer in
England , Malta and Gibraltar.
On either Monday or Tuesday,
the couple will have to appear in

Conservative-Republican
candidate for a trustee post m the
Village of Patchogue in March ,
defeated Fred Stoher for the post
of party treasurer
According to Leo, the results of
the Tuesday meeting at the Route
112 Lounge in North Patchogue ,
represent a victory for sections of
the party that favor crossendorsement agreements with
the Republicans. Some 120
elected committeemen attended
the evening meeting.
The defeated candidates in the
ra ce were supported by members
of the Committee to Elect
Brookhaven Conservatives , a
group that opposed the 1975 GOPConservative cross-endorsement
arrangement.
Last year , the committee
fielded its own slate of candidates
in the Conservative primary in an
effort to defeat Republicans who
were running on the Conservative
line as part of a crossendorsement agreement . The
committee 's candidates succeeded in wrestling four ballot
positions away from GOP candidates .
All the Conservative Party
all
the
candidates
and
Republican candidates , with the
exception of Brookhaven High-
way Superintendent Harold
Malkmes , who retained his crossendorsement , subsequently lost
the town elections.
Seth Morgan , a leader of the
Committee to Elect Brookhaven
Conservatives, said the results of
the town committeemen meeting
may be con tested.
Morgan , who is seeking GOP
support for his own bid to run
against
Democratic
Congressman
Otis
Pike ,
described the Tuesday election
result as "a victor y for proZeidler forces ." Zeidler is the
former
Republican
Town
Committee chairman
who
resigned in the wake of losses by
his party last year
"The party is moving forward
in a progressive manner ," said
Leo, "running our own candidates is a complete waste of
time. "
A Coram attorney who served
as town Conservative leader for
four-and-a-half years, Leo said he
plans to serve on town and county
law committees for the Conservative Party. He remains a
state committeeman.

State Supreme Court to answer
the charges against them
Mrs Antonini said the last
incident between the couple and
the town occurred in 1970.
Allegations that the school did not
conform to local zonmg laws
were dropped at the time , she
said.
"When it was all worked out ,
why on earth didn 't they tell us
what to do?" said Mrs. Antonini ;
"we just want to be happy. "
The summons brought against
the Antoninis by Special Attorney
Giaccone lists the Town of
Brookhaven as the "plaintiff. "
"I have nothing to do with it; I
don 't know anything about it ,"
saidTownAttorney Walter Beck
appointed to head the town's
legal department in January .
Beck said the Antonini case was
one of several that Giaccone had
been assigned to handle in the
past.
Privately, one top town official
expressed the hope that the case
against the Antoninis would be
dismissed in court .
