CampinventionisaprogramoftheNationalInventorsHallofFame(NIHF),anonprofit
organizationdedicatedtohonoring,challenging,andinspiringinnovation.Thisyear’sCampInvention
curriculumfeaturesseveralvideochallengesfromNIHFInducteesencouragingchildrentoexploretheir
innovativenessandpitchtheiruniqueideas.

ELEMENTARYSCHOOLDRESSCODE
Thestandardsforelementaryschooldressreflect"commonsense"andaconcernforeachchild'scomfort,safety,
cleanliness,andsenseofmodesty.Thereisastrongrelationshipbetweenneat,appropriateattireandapositive
learningenvironment.Apparelorappearancewhichtendstodrawattentiontoanindividualratherthantoa
learningsituationmustbeavoided.Tohelpcreatethebestlearningenvironmentforelementarystudents,the
followingstandardsforstudentdressmustbeobservedinallKnoxCountyElementarySchools:
1.Pantsmustnotsagbelowthewaistandmustbeatasafelength.
2.Headapparel,exceptforreligiousormedicalreasons,mustnotbeworninsidetheschoolbuilding.
3.Footwearisrequiredandmustbesafeandappropriateforindoororoutdoorphysicalactivity.
4.Clothingoraccessoriesmaynotcreatedisruptionordisplayvulgarlanguageorimagesandmustnotadvertise
productswhichstudentsmaynotlegallypurchase.
5.ForstudentsinGrades3-5,"shortshorts",mini-skirts,andskin-tightoutermaterialswithoutpropercoverageare
inappropriateattire.
6.ForstudentsinGrades3-5,shirts,blouses,anddressesmustcompletelycovertheabdomen,back,andshoulders,
andshirtsortopsmustcoverthewaistbandofpants,shorts,orskirtswithnomidriffvisible.Skin-tightouter
materialsareprohibitedwithoutappropriatecoverage.
Theschooladministrationreservestherighttodeterminewhetherthestudent'sattireandappearancearewithin
theacceptablelimits.Inmattersofopinion,thejudgmentoftheprincipal/designeeshallprevail.
Theprincipalmayallowexceptionsforschool-wideprogramsorspecialclassroomactivities.
Theteachersandtheprincipalwilladministerappropriateconsequencesforpolicyinfractions.
