Year 6 MANIFESTO RUSH COMMON SCHOOL Miss Rowe | Humanities – General Election | May 7, 2015 WALT: write a Political Party Manifesto A Political Party produces a manifesto to say what they think is important in society, it states the party’s intentions, views and opinions. Each party highlights what they believes should happen in society and the changes they would make to improve our country. These statements often relate to topics such as health, education, social housing, taxes, employment, immigration, poverty to name but a few. Each pupil in year 6 has written their own manifesto. Below are the statements they have made regarding an issue in society that they believe passionately about and that they would change if they were to be elected Prime Minister. Pupil A – 6SR If I were to be elected Prime Minister I would change fitness levels in youths. It is incredibly important that young children get involved in sport for so many reasons; it could put an end to child obesity, which often leads to adult obesity. If this change were to be made it would save the National Health Service (NHS) money. Also, the most common cause of depression is that people feel that they have nothing, but finding a sport that they love could change that. Finally, sport is a life skill which can save your life. I am very passionate about this topic and if I am elected Prime Minister I will fulfill this duty without question. Pupil B – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would make sure poverty, in the UK and around the world, is stopped. Poverty is a growing problem all over the globe; in Africa, Asia and Europe. However, this will change if I am elected as Prime Minister. In the UK, thousands of people are facing PAGE 1 poverty at the moment. This is meaning that the National Health Service (NHS) is struggling to keep up with the amount of health issues caused by poverty. It is not just the UK who is struggling, but other countries there are many people fighting for their lives due to severe poverty. Children need mosquito nets to protect them from malaria; these cost money. If I were elected Prime Minister, all these problems would be solved. Pupil C – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would ensure that fast food restaurants make their food differently. For example, they are all made by adding toxic chemicals, leaning potatoes in the shed for six weeks and adding around ninety artificial flavours. This could result in a devastating effect if they take the potatoes out early. So, I am saying that they should make fast food healthier. Pupil D – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would stop bullying. This will help a lot of children, as well as adults, and make life happy for everyone. Some children are not confident enough to tell a responsible adult if they are being bullied, and so they feel really bad. Sometimes this can even cause the bully victim to kill themselves! Do you really want that to happen? Bullying can be physical as well as on the internet. This is why I would promise a lot more work on e-‐safety, as this will help everyone. Pupil E – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would change our environment across the country. More jobs would be offered to help clean up otherwise this country will turn into a virtual rubbish tip. I believe that nature is an important object to our society and it is being destroyed by trash and litter. If everything was cleaned up, not only would it bring people together whilst doing it, but it would allow families to feel happy about going out to perhaps play a game of football or go out on a walk. This PAGE 2 would be a credit to our country, due to the astonishing amount of obesity – in both adults and children. Why not have a healthy, happy world when it can be done in just a months’ time? I promise that this major issue will definitely be sorted. Pupil F – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I will make schools finish at 12:00 on Friday in order for them to take up an activity of their choice. This is because I believe that children should have the chance to take up something that they enjoy. It would be a great opportunity to find something that they are passionate about as well as make friends. It could even be something that they could do for a living when they were older. As well as that, children who were being bullied would have something to take their mind off things. Finally, the club would be for free to ensure everyone no matter how rich or poor they were would get an opportunity to join a club. Pupil G – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would change bullying because all people should be treated the same. Everybody should be respected and seen like everyone else. Also, I would argue and debate for no school uniform in England so children would be more comfortable at school and they can be free with their clothes. Also, I would fight for school teachers to get paid more because of all the things they do for pupils/students. Pupil H – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would make sure that as soon as children get to KS2, they say a few things about jobs they would be happy doing so that they don’t have to do subjects that don’t matter for them. For example, if a child wouldn’t mind being an, actor, artist or a reporter then we would only make them do the subjects they need. Therefore, that child only does subjects that matter for them. I would like to tell PAGE 3 you that /I can give you anything you want, but that would be me lying. I can say that I will do everything in my power to keep England happy. Pupil I – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would say that we need to spend much more money on other countries. We should spend more money on the people that need it in our country. Also, we could as come other countries to donate money to other people in need until all countries have enough money. Pupil J – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would pay more money into our schools, because some schools are having trouble to employ teachers. This is the result of having to do lots of work at home (planning lessons and marking) and not getting paid for it. Teachers would then be able to buy resources they need to help children do the best that they can. Pupil K – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would make littering illegal as it pollutes the earth and can kill animals. Firstly, littering is very harmful and pollutes the streets; for example, everywhere you go there is chewing gum and plastic bags on the floor and on the walls. Furthermore, if this was to stop the UK would be much cleaner and a safer place because children can die if they get a plastic bag stuck on their head. This can also kill animals and plants. Pupil L – 6SR I believe that the prices of things for families should be lowered because families and some parents have to work extra shifts at work. If places could not lower prices where people work they could pay workers more. This could help families all over the world. If prices were lowered, families could spend more money on other things like if PAGE 4 you want your child to go to private school. That is expensive. Buying food for the family can also be expensive. If prices were lowered families could focus on paying bills and enjoying their wages. Pupil M – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would make it so that less people littered and there should be a £50 penalty if they do. There is litter everywhere and it is not nice at all. Animals get caught in it and it can give bikes punctures. It attracts rats and fleas and babies can pick it up, eat it and choke. If I were in power, I would organize regular litter picking events and introduce a fine if anyone did litter. Hopefully this would stop the issue of littering. Pupil N – 6SR If I was Prime Minister, I would stop child abuse because the new generation of children do not need to be hurt, they need to be held and loved. They do not need to be scared. Some children who get abused could pass it on to their children. We need to stop this in its tracks. Pupil O – 6SR I think that pensioners should get more money in their income, because if they live alone, they might lose their money because they have no one to help them. Also, pensioners should get their busses for free. Prices should be lowered on petrol, food, drinks and other stuff. I believe that fatty foods should become a higher price to help people to keep healthy and to help obese people to lose weight. Single parents with young children should have more income. I would really love for another country to be nice to each other and world peace also. PAGE 5 Pupil P – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would ban school uniform in the UK because many children in schools say that uniform is strange as everyone wears the same thing. We were all made to be different so we should wear different clothes. Also, it is much easier for parents not to waste their money on clothes that are the same of others. Although, some may think it is smart, but children should have the right to choose their own fashion. Pupil Q – 6SR If I were to be Prime Minister, I will stop children from having to wear school uniforms. If there were no school uniform it could save the amount of money parents pay! Pupil R – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would try to stop animal abuse because most animals only get abandoned or abused because their owners have not got enough money. To fix this, I would want more animal sanctuaries built to help abandoned animals. Also, I would want to stop illegal animal breeding. I want it stopped because my opinion is that different breeds of animal creating mew species is wrong and unfair on the animals. Pupil S – 6SR I think there should be more drama in the school curriculum so that children become more engaged in school. I think there should be no school uniform as children should be able to express themselves. Pupil T – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would ban school uniform because it might make people want to come to school if they can wear what they want. Also, people don’t like their school uniform because of the button on their shirts. As well as this, parents don’t have to pay all that money on PAGE 6 uniform. I could help children concentrate in lessons and make schools a better place. Pupil U – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I would improve health everywhere, in schools, peoples weight, make the National Health Service better and much more. People’s weight has been a problem ever since un-‐healthy foods have become more popular, so I would make school dinners healthier and make it free! Also, I would provide free healthy snacks and give fitness advice to everyone. Pupil V – 6SR If I were Prime Minister, I would try to make primary and secondary schools teach more advanced Mathematic. If this happened there would be more Mathematicians in the UK, which would lead to amazing discoveries involving Mathematics. For example, perhaps children should know their times table by foundation stage, algebraic equations in year 1 and maybe even work with bigger digits by year 2. Pupil W – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I would make football tickets free to support the team as people cannot afford to buy tickets. I would do this because if people passionately like sports but they have no money they cannot watch the sport they love. If this didn’t happen then there will be less attendance at t games. Pupil X – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I would protect the environment more. The environment is so important and we should look after it. I would make a law saying that if you litter, you must pay a fine of £10. I would also protect forests and lovely places outside from people coming into them so no-‐one chops any trees down or damages the landscape. I would PAGE 7 also encourage the use of greener energy like wind power, solar power or water power, since cars are very damaging to the earth. Pupil Y – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, then I would try and change health care because if people can’t sit up for example they should stay and not be told they have to leave, because the hospital hasn’t got enough beds. Also, we should have nurses that may not be needed at one time but needed at another then they should be on-‐call. There should be more volunteers so that if they are needed they could come in and help. This would mean that if there wasn’t enough nurses at local hospitals then people would be able to come in and help. Pupil Z – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I would use taxes to support family breakups and here are the reasons why. Firstly, family break ups can be really hard for some people, especially if you are an older child. The last thing that child wants is to know that their parent is struggling for money. Just think your money could help the departed parents fall back on their feet or even help a child. Pupil Aa – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I would let health care be free. I would do this because if someone is really ill and it was serious or if they had a broken bone they would need help. However, if they were poor or unable to pay the amount of money they would be more likely to pass away earlier than expected. This might mean that their children, if they have any, do not have anywhere else to go. I hope this will persuade you to vote for me. Pupil Bb – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I would change the curriculum for schools. I believe that there are too many maths and literacy lessons and not PAGE 8 enough PE, drama, science and DT lessons. In my opinion, these lessons are just as important as maths and literacy for jobs like acting and sports. With these lessons I think that children would enjoy coming to school more. I would also fund schools so that they have all the resources they need for science so children can do the appropriate experiments ready for secondary school. Pupil Cc – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I would decrease taxes and mortgages and attempt to employ everyone who is not retired. Many people who are lazy, lie that they cannot work for one reason or another; I wish to stop this and make a more hardworking community. However, I can only do this if I were to be elected. I also plan on lowering tax and mortgages since jobs that pay extremely little make life difficult. I would decrease tax by as much as 50%, if I were elected. Pupil Dd – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I would provide small homes for people who cannot afford them. I believe this would benefit the country for the following reasons. First of all, many people die because of poor sheltering; this movement will tackle this issue. Also, it would save many people who are forced to move out, from a young age, by providing them with shelter (even if temporary) before they can afford their own. Another movement I would start to reduce the cost of homes, numerous people are unable to afford a habitable home. This devastates many people’s lives, especially young peoples. If these changes are completed; it will massively benefit the country. Pupil Ee – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I think that in the UK too many people chuck rubbish e.g. plastic bags, crisp packets and many other pieces of trash on the floor. Small wildlife animals like hedgehogs and frogs could get stuck in and possible die. I would change the way people behave PAGE 9 towards nature’s creatures. I also believe that nature can help the nation get to where we want to be in life. For example, if you would like to work in a wildlife center you could not because there would be no wildlife. Why would anyone want this to happen to their future career? Pupil Ff – 6BD If I were a Prime Minister, I would strongly suggest the amount of paper should decrease at schools and other learning or working societies. The amount of paper being wasted at schools and maybe even universities/ colleges is immense. My opinion is to use more digital computers and screens to increase education. Even if we do use lots of paper we don’t need to put it in the trash, we could simply reuse it. Don’t forget paper comes from trees, habitats are surviving within those trees and they are being destroyed to use as resources such as paper. To sum up, re-‐using paper could solve many problems around the globe. Pupil Gg – 6BD If I were a Prime Minister, I would send more food, money and other resources to the poor children in Africa. I believe more children should be provided with more medicine and food so that they do not die or starve to death. I strongly believe that England and other countries do not ship over enough equipment needed to help children who are struggling. The only reason someone is born is because they have a life to live. Families are devastated when their children die of different causes such as Ebola and no clean water. Altogether, if you vote for me as Prime Minister that is one of my main reasons which I would change. Pupil Hh – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I would make school 30 minutes longer, because then children will get more time for lessons they do not have PAGE 10 very long for. Also, children would get more education and have more breaks, so over all it would be good for both teachers and pupils. I also believe that children should get more education in a day so they can get a good job themselves. Furthermore, children will get a good job when they are older so then they can get money to run a house and a car. I would make this this all possible if I were Prime Minister. Pupil Ii – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I would make something else for ill children than having to go to school. I would change this because some children die at a young age and all they have done is gone to school. If I could change this I would make fun places all over for all children who could have a short life span. Personally, I think this would make them enjoy life more and also live life to its fullest. With these centers, it would make their health improve. Pupil Jj – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I would stop people treating animals badly. Pupil Kk – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I would change the prices to get into private school and these are my reasons why. If a family is very poor and can’t get their child into the school of their choice then they are more likely to grow up uneducated. If lots of main schools are full then private schools should open its doors to those children. This will reduce unemployment in the future. Pupil Ll – 6BD School uniform should be banned. School uniform makes students uncomfortable and they do not allow them to express themselves and can create problems during break times. I believe that during lessons if students weren’t feeling uncomfortable they could focus all their attention on the lesson the teacher would be giving. No school PAGE 11 uniform would save the school money buying uniforms with the schools logo and name on. Pupil Mm – 6BD Animal cruelty has been an ongoing situation in our world, abandoning them and beating them so that they fight! Do you really want this to happen? Animals put trust into their owners to clean them, water and feed them. They don’t do anything wrong to be neglected. Some animals die from neglect and pain. Even when they have got rehomed they will still have that ongoing nightmare of neglect from the past. Pupil Nn – 6BD Being Prime Minister would lead to higher quality health service. I strongly believe that children suffering from severe illnesses should spend their time away from school. Young kids spend every day in school – they don’t have a good experience of life due to their deaths. Pupil Oo – 6BD If I were Prime Minister, I would help migrants. I would allow them to stay for up to a year and if they could not get a job and live without too many benefits. I would also raise taxes for the richest but not the poorest. PAGE 12
