TITLE
CHOFU STATION PROJECT
REQUEST
By the end of the year 2008, CHOFU station (KEIO railways) located in
CHOFU city, suburb of Tokyo will be converted to an underground station.
The whole station will be going underground leaves the existing site
above open. The assignment is to design that rat-tail site a by-station
area and in consideration with the landscape nearby.

ANALYSIS
This existing area illustrates the general postwar town (residential
zone) in Japan with a high density of old block off buildings. The whole
area is quite old and the full of elderly people. This can be explained
by the fact that this town is quite away from the center of Tokyo.
Somberness seems to be the Japanese’s favorite choice, not only in
architecture but also in general. It is “ cool” in one way but “ cold” in
another way like their national characteristic.

DESIGN CONCEPT
Eliminate most slopes and stairs. Concentrate vertical transportation on
EV in order to create a universal design space which is suitable for the
aging social condition of the area.
Soften the block off city with textile membrane material. Use a
combination of several squares to unite the whole area together.

CONCEPT:
The idea for this station is to soften the city with
