Message from Our Principal
Mr. Lawrence S. Neubauer
Principal of
Saint George School
since 1993
WELCOME TO THE 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR!
It is with great anticipation that we begin the 2015-2016 school
year at Saint George School, celebrating the beginning of another
school year. I would like to welcome back our “returning Lancers”
and welcome all of our new “incoming Lancers.” A big welcome to
our newest Faculty, Mrs. Sebulak, 7th and 8th grade Math Teacher, and Mrs. Angela
McAndrew, 1st-grade Teacher. Another big welcome back to all the terrific teachers,
splendid staff, and amazing administrators of SGS to another SGS “Spirit” filled year!
I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable summer vacation!
It is a pleasure to be your principal. I take great pride in serving our community with a
Catholic school that has a long-standing tradition of Academic Excellence † Leadership
† Faith Development. This school year I am ready to once again work together to build
upon that status!
Our job as administrators, faculty and staff, is to create a comfortable, safe environment
for our students to develop and grow not only in knowledge, but in faith. We work hard
to provide the proper instruction to make this happen. We work through struggles, we
celebrate and commend accomplishments, we rejoice over the milestones, and we prepare
our students for the next step of academics— high school and beyond. At Saint George
School, we depend on a lot of individuals to accomplish our goal. We count on our network
of parents, PTO, family members, our Pastor and Parochial Vicar, School Board, Music and
Athletics Departments, our community, and God! We are a team! Together we achieve
and see our students succeed!
If you have any questions during the year, please contact us at 864-4821 or stop by the
office. We will be happy to assist you as we embark on another school year.
My best wishes to all for a terrific year here at Saint George Catholic School!

The Saint George School Peer Tutoring Program will
begin in October. Students in all grades may be
referred by their teacher for academic assistance
from one of our Peer Tutors in 7th or 8th grade.
Tutors meet with students on a regular basis to
complete homework, study, review basic fundamentals, and practice reading. Last year’s program and
participants experienced great success with increased test scores, improvement in grades, consistent completion of classwork and assignments,
and development of study skills and habits.

We had an incredible number of students visit the Library during
Summer Hours. 881.8 points were earned by grades 5-8 for AR
to start off this school year!! Great reading to all of those who
took the time to read and take tests this Summer!!
Congratulations to Adam Gavio in 5th Grade and Brielle Rich
in 6th Grade who have already earned 100 points this
Summer and are in the “100 Club” already!
The BUCK-A-BOOK Event held last Spring was a huge success!! We raised almost $700 for new books for the Library.
The students had so much fun stocking up on books for only a
dollar each. What a great way to trade books amongst each other
and help the Library!! Thanks to ALL who donated and
shopped! We will have another BUCK-A-BOOK the Spring of
2017, but donations are accepted ANY time. Just drop them off
at the school office or the Library and label them BUCK-ABOOK.
Speaking of successes…just take a look at the photo of how many books the Race For Education allowed the Library to
purchase this Summer!!!! It will be so exciting for students to check out the new books this school year and feel they
and their loved ones helped to stock our shelves. Your support in the Race truly does make a difference at our school!!
Please continue to support this very important event with a positive attitude…..as we are all on the same Lancer team!!!
Responsibility is one of the character traits that Library helps to teach. Please help your child to remember their Library
day each week so they can learn to return their books on time. If you model the value of responsibility, they will follow
your lead.
Welcome Back to Books, Mrs. Carrara

Easy Earning for Saint George School
Want to Earn Tuition Credit at No Cost?
Are you interested in free tuition credit? Just think of the
tuition credit generating possibilities arising from your own
family’s spending habits. Scrip is a proven method of
generating tuition credit through common purchases from
your favorite stores, restaurants and service providers.
What is Scrip?
Scrip is a program where you purchase gift cards for spending.
The Great Lakes Scrip Center buys large quantities of gift
cards at a discount and passes the savings on to you. A $100
gift card costs you $100, but a % of that money goes back to
SGS and to you in the form of a tuition credit. The percentage
varies per vendor. There are hundreds of merchants that
participate in the script program. Best of all, there are no
points to redeem and no coupons to use.
Here’s how to get started: (There are three (3) ways to purchase Scrip)
1. Stop by the front office for Scrip Registration and Order Forms. Scrip orders are not final until they are paid.
Make Checks payable to SGS.
2. Send orders in with your child. Scrip Registration Forms and Order Forms can be turned in to the school office
along with your check. Scrip orders will be distributed back to your student’s backpack the following week.
3. Order on-line using the shopwithscrip.com website. This web site includes all vendors who participate in the scrip
program and is easy to navigate. Orders made on-line are not final until payment is made; however, the website
offers Presto Pay to automatically deduct the payment from your bank account so your order is complete when you
make your order. Presto Pay does charge a nominal processing fee. If you do not wish to utilize Presto Pay simply
send a check in to the school following an on-line order. Orders using this method are not complete until the check
is received by the school.
Ideas for Ordering Scrip Cards
Are you purchasing a new computer?
Are you getting a new appliance?
Buying groceries?
Going on vacation?
Going to the movies and dinner?
Christmas, Birthdays & Special Occassions
Child’s Birthday?
Everyday Use
Best Buy, Sam’s, Wal-Mart, Office Max, Staples offer Scrip gift cards.
Sears, Lowe’s and Home Depot offer Scrip gift cards.
Giant Eagle offers scrip gift cards.
Marriott, Hilton, and even Disney offer scrip gift cards.
Cinemark, TGIFridays, O’Charley’s, Olive Garden, etc.
I-tunes, Toys-R-Us, Bed-Bath & Beyond offer gift cards
Chuck-E-Cheese & Build-A-Bear offer gift cards.
Starbucks, Office Max, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Shutter fly,
Panera Bread, Burger King, Pizza Hut, plus many more!
How does the credit work?
Every vendor offers a percent of the dollar amount of the gift card back to the school. The percent is noted on the order
forms and on-line next to the vendor’s name. For example, Giant Eagle offers 4% savings. When you purchase a $100
gift card, 2% (or $2) goes to your tuition credit and 2% goes to SGS. Many vendors offer larger savings. An example is
Land’s End. Land’s End offers 16% savings. If you purchase a $100 gift card, 8% (or $8) goes to your tuition credit
and 8% goes to SGS. The more you plan and order the more tuition credit you receive. Tuition credits are disbursed at
the end of the school year in a check back to the family or applied toward the following year’s tuition.

MEET THE
TEACHER NIGHT
Tuesday, September 15th
Thanks to all our terrific teachers
and the efforts of our PTO!
Special thanks to all of our Auction
Basket Donors, your support for our
school is greatly appreciated!
Our New Student Open House and Meet the Teacher
Night were definitely great events to begin the
2015-2016 school year. “It was a pleasure to see so many
students and their families visit classrooms, meet teachers and staff, and enjoy the social vibe along the way,”
said Assistant Principal, Mrs. Frick. We are all looking
forward to a great school year. Principal Neubauer said
“it’s great that we have a good working relationship with
the parents because their support and commitment to
their children, our many activities, and to our teachers
and staff are what make us a strong school!”
Many took advantage of the opportunity not to cook dinner the evening of Meet the Teacher Night. PTO provided a “Grab & Go” sub sandwiches “Supper in a Sac” complete with chips and bottled water as a fundraiser to support PTO.
The Multipurpose room was full of fun with raffle
basket chances, Teacher Classroom Wish Lists to view,
and our PTO President, Krista Ott, on recruit for new
volunteers for the year.
THANK YOU GOD FOR OUR
GRANDPARENTS & SENIOR FRIENDS!
During the week of September 14th,
Saint George School hosted the
annual “Grandparents Day
Celebration.” Saint George students
in Kindergarten through Eighth grade
invited their grandparents and special
senior friends to experience a sense of
our Saint George community while
enjoying refreshments. Volunteer
Moms, Fr. Brandon, Teachers,
Mrs. Pirrello, and Mrs. Pacoe assisted
with seating and serving our guests
and students with efficiency and professionalism. They were a fantastic
help from set-up and clean-up each
day—everyone involved including
Ms. Vogt and the Café Staff contributed to making a memorable event
for the visiting grandparents and
senior friends.
Our goodies were baked fresh daily by
Mrs. Ferrick at Frank’s Farm Market
& Bakery on Sterrettania Road. Mrs.
Ferrick is the proud mother of Julia,
Anna, and Gabriella, that attend
Saint George School.
Beautiful assorted colors of Mum
plants served as our table centerpieces. The Mums were also provided
by Frank’s Farm Market. We were
awed by their hearty appearance and size. The Mums
were for sale with a $3.00 donation given to the teacher of
choice to assist with the purchase of classroom “Wish
List” items.
Many of our guests enjoyed
pondering over a special item
to donate from “Teacher
Classroom Wish Lists.”
Excitement filled the school
as donations of requested
items, gift cards, and
monetary gifts arrived. We
are very grateful to all our
parents, grandparents, and
special senior friends for
their generosity. Even now,
several weeks later, teachers are continuing to receive surprise gifts. Many wishes have come true, special thanks
to you!
Following the reception, Grandparents were invited to visit
classrooms where they were entertained by class presentations and activities. Our 8th-grade students attended
our children-led liturgy on Friday, September 18th.
Following Mass, the students escorted their Grandparents
and senior friends to our café for goodies.
Each morning ended with displays of affection— a final
hug, a big kiss and a long wave goodbye, the grandparents
departed… and classes resumed. God has blessed the
SGS community through you—with a strong foundation of
faithful and interested grandparents and grand friends!

A BIG
SERVICE PROJECT
COMPLETED
BY KIDS WITH
BIG HEARTS!
Super Saint George School service minded kids
and Saint George Parish Youth Group kids
gathered in the school’s gymnasium on Monday,
August 17th to make no-sew fleece blankets.
The blankets will be donated to the Erie County
Office of Children & Youth to distribute to
children transitioning into the foster system in
Erie county. The colorful cuddly-soft blankets
provide comfort and security to these children
who are frightened and experiencing a difficult
time. The students’ motivation and commitment
demonstrated to the cause proved that a great
deal of satisfaction results from teamwork and
the accomplishment of each blanket made.
The students learned of the benefits to the
recipient of each blanket and that by volunteering
and serving others make's everyone’s lives better!
Service Project Coordinator, Miss Marielle Lafaro, Saint George Parish Youth Group
Leader, Mr. Mike Palmer, and Saint George Parochial Vicar, Fr. Brandon Kleckner
lent a hand to help. 25 Blankets were completed in a little over 2 hours of time!

Patriot’s Day Mass of Remembrance
September 11, 2015
Saint George Students honored the memory of
all those whose lives were changed forever by
the events of September 11, 2001, at the 9:00
a.m. School Mass celebrated by Msgr. Brugger
and concelebrated by Fr. Kleckner.
Erie Firefighter, Mr. Fred Gillespie, and an
honor guard led the entrance procession carrying the flag of the United States, as Mass
began. Later he spoke briefly about the
significance of the commemoration and
concluded by leading all in a “Prayer for Patriot Day.”
We pray for our Nation and special blessings upon all emergency workers,
police officers, and firefighters who serve in our community.
SAINT GEORGE’S WEEKLY SCHOOL MASSES
Saint George School students and staff attend weekly student-led school masses, on Fridays at 9:00 a.m.
Friends and families are welcome to join us!
