Handpiece Instructions • Turn handpiece on by sliding on/off switch forward; turn handpiece off by sliding on/off switch back. • The handpiece has only one setting and when using a 1:1 head the speed is ~2600 RPM at ~5.0 oz-in (360 g-cm) torque. • Check with your instrument manufacturer for their recommended speed and torque settings before using this handpiece. • It is good to charge the handpiece before the first use. • A fully charged battery should be capable of 6-8 hours of continuous operation before additional charging is necessary. • When using the handpiece, cover handpiece body with a FDA cleared barrier sheath. • Wipe down handpiece body with alcohol taking care not to soak or damage labels. Warnings • DO NOT attempt to open handpiece body for any reason at any time. Push Button Latch Head Figure 2. Latch Head Head Maintenance • Only use the contra angle head provided with the cordless handpiece or one that is sold by LightSpeed Technology Inc. specifically for the LightSpeed EndoPAL handpiece. Failure to do so will void the warranty. • Please follow the contra angle maintenance and sterilization instructions between each patient use. • Steam autoclaving is the only acceptable sterilizing method. Remove from handpiece and autoclave between patient uses. Sterilize between 121°C and 132°C for 15 to 20 minutes at 15-PSI minimum pressure. Follow manufactures directions of the unit you are using for autoclaving. Never autoclave with an instrument in head. Allow head to cool to room temperature before use. • You may use rubbing alcohol to wipe off the head but this is not a sufficient sterilization process. • Lubricate the head with handpiece oil between each use and prior to autoclaving. Clean off any excess oil that could seep into handpiece body, damage its components or get into the patient’s mouth. Attaching and Removing Heads • Turn collar portion only: clockwise to tighten, counterclockwise to loosen. Use caution not to strip threads or attempt to turn any portion of the head other than the contra angle collar. • Open the latch before removing or attaching the head as the latch gets in the way of turning the collar. • Ensure head is properly connected before attempting to use handpiece. Charging and Batteries 5 Figure 4. Charging Position • Place handpiece in cradle on its side as shown in Figure 4 then insert charger plug into back of handpiece body. Plug charging unit into AC outlet according to Fig 6a or 6b. Normal charging cycle is 60 - 120 minutes (1 - 2 hours). The charger may take slightly longer to charge the handpiece due to the actual room temperature and other charging variables. You may leave the handpiece connected to the charger for longer than the specified time, such as leaving it charging over the weekend. Figure 5. Storage Position You may also use the cradle as a stand as shown in Figure 5. Figure 6. Battery Charging Unit Figure 6a. Model 1: 120 Volt 60 Hz., with USA type plug Figure 6b.
