A fabulous trip was had by all and a big thank you to Mrs Cleaver, Mrs McEwen and Mr Stepowikow for providing such a wonderful trip. Last week we had our school cross country and I would like to commend all of our participants who gave it everything they had to either run 2km or 3km. Great team spirit was evident as runners were cheered and supported. Congratulations to the aged champions and those selected to go onto DIO level. After our carnival we then continued to celebrate Catholic Schools Week by inviting parents into our classrooms, having a shared lunch and buying goodies from the Year 6 cake stall. We really appreciate all of the support parents gave us to ensure that this event was a success, so thank you parents! In total we raised $194 from the cake stall which will go towards helping others. St Joey’s is certainly an amazing school community of care and support! Please note that parent-teacher interviews are on 28 & 29th March and this is a great way to catch up on your child/ren’s progress at school and what you can do to further support them. If you can’t make these times please contact your class teacher to negotiate a time to meet. Have a fabulous week! Emma Timmins Principal Early Departure/Late Arrivals Please note that it is extremely important to sign your child/ren in or out of school. This is required for legal reasons, as well as allowing teachers to mark the daily roll. When your child arrives late or leaves early they will receive a slip to be handed to the teacher explaining their partial absence. This must be handed to the teacher by the parent if leaving early. Thank you for ensuring the continuance of great communication. Year 6 camp to Sydney Year 6 students had a wonderful 3 day trip to Sydney this week. First stop was Sydney Aquarium which was awesome. In the evening they had dinner at Chinatown and then experienced a “birds eye” view of the city from the Sydney Eye Tower.—it was sparkling! Next day they took a ferry ride over to Taronga Zoo - there were 2 cruise ships in town—it was a great sight! The rain held off to enjoy the zoo and in the afternoon we had a great time on Bondi beach, eating yummy fish and chips and finishing off at the Opera House. Last day was fun shopping at Paddy’s Markets before heading home. Thanks Mrs Cleaver, Mrs McEwen and Mr Stepowikow for a fantastic time. School Fees School fees for Term 1 have now been issued. If you are entitled to a HCC discount please ensure you provide a copy of your card to Mary for processing. These fees are important for our school’s financial viability and we appreciate your on-going commitment. Please contact the Principal, if youPage need to discuss your 2 account for 2017. LITERACY & NUMERACY The State Action Plan: Literacy & Numeracy (SAP Project) is up and running at St Joey’s this year. It is a Government funded project that provides us with support in focusing on quality teaching in Literacy and Numeracy. Our focus for 2017: Assessment: use school wide and class assessments to fine tune how and what we teach. Resources: provide targeted and appropriate resources for students Maths: continue with our Flexible Learning Groups to support and extend students in the area of Whole Number, Addition & Subtraction, Multiplication & Division and Fractions & Decimals. Writing: use NAPLAN data, quality resources and effective teaching strategies to improve students’ writing. Ensure best practice to support quality teaching and learning in English and Maths. Leading Teacher: My role as Leading Teacher is a new one this year. I teach Kindergarten for the first half of the week as their classroom teacher and then Miss Grace Mullen takes over for the rest of the week and I move into the Leading Teacher role. I work mainly with K-2 students, their classroom teachers and the Learning Support Assistants to support them with the above focus points. You might find me in a different classroom, meeting with teachers or Learning Support Assistants, finding resources to target specific needs of students or teaching small groups of students. This role is certainly one that is different from what I am used to and hope that everyone working together will help us, as a school, achieve our goals.
