EXPLANATIONS
1.
The data contained in this publication is for the year 2010-11 (reference
date is 30.09.2010).
2.
The data is provisional and subject to revision after receiving comments
from the States/Union Territories.
3.
We have not received data from the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Nagaland
and Sikkim for the year 2010-11. Therefore data for these states have been
repeated from the year 2009-10.
4.
Haryana has provided School data for Classes I-VIII only and not for
Classes IX-XII. Hence, data for Classes IX-XII have been repeated from the
year 2009-10.
5.
Data have been received from Karnataka for Classes I-X only and not for
Classes XI-XII. Hence data for Classes XI-XII have been repeated from the
year 2009-10.
6.
For Bihar number of Intermediate colleges have not been distributed under
different Managements. All of them are shown under Government.
7.
Assam have provided School data for Classes VIII–XII only and not for
Classes I-VII. Hence, data for Classes I-VII have been repeated from the
year 2009-10.
8.
Student enrolment shown by Punjab for the year 2010-11 for Classes I-VIII
is abnormally low as compared to data for the year 2009-10. Hence data
for Classes I-VIII have been repeated from the year 2009-10.

Gujarat has provided School data for Classes VIII–XII only and not for
Classes I-VII. Hence, data for Classes I-VII have been repeated from the
year 2009-10. Gujarat has not shown the figures on number of Schools,
Teacher and Enrolment for Primary and Upper Primary Schools separately.
We have shown these figures under Upper Primary Schools taking figures
from 2009-10.

Jharkhand has not provided bifurcation of Institutions by Management for
the year 2010-11. Number of Teacher and Enrolment by type has also not
been provided. PTR has been repeated from 2009-10.

Mizoram has revised the back series Class I enrolment for Years 2001-02
to 2008-09. These figures have been taken to calculate the Indicators.

Many States viz. Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Goa, Gujarat, Jammu &
Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram,
Nagaland, Odisha, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal,
Chandigarh, D & N Haveli
have not shown number of Pre-Primary
schools. It is not clear whether enrolment in Pre-Primary Classes is

B
Methodology adopted for Population Projections in the Agegroups 6-10 years, 11-13 years, 14-15 years and 16-17 years
Single age wise projected population is available for the years 2006 & 2011
for the ages 5-18 years from “ POPULATION PROJECTIONS FOR INDIA
AND STATES 2001-2026” published by The Registrar General & Census
Commissioner, Government of India. These are available State-wise
(including Assam) except for North–Eastern States and Goa. For North –
Eastern states excluding Assam, combined projection totals are available
single age-wise. Age-wise population projections are not available for Union
Territories (UTs) and Goa.
For All States (including Assam) except Goa, North–Eastern States other
than Assam and UTs.
For each age-group, population has been projected for the year 2010 Statewise, using Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR). This has been further
refined using the actual State-wise population as available from 2011
census.
For North–Eastern States other than Assam
For each age-group, population has been projected for the year 2010 for
combined North-Eastern States other than Assam, using CAGR. This has
been further refined using the actual population totals for combined North
Eastern States other than Assam as available from 2011 census. These have
then been distributed amongst the North-Eastern States using the ratio of
2001 population for each age group.
For Goa and UTs
For each age-group, population for each UT has been worked out for the
year 2010 using ratio of population in that age group to the total population
in 2001. The same method has been used for Goa also. This has been
further refined using the actual State-wise population as available from
2011 census.
SC/ST Population
For each age-group, the SC/ST population for a State has been obtained for
the year 2010 using the ratio of SC/ST population in that age group to the
total population of that State in 2001.
