Improvement Considering the rubric for the element identified above, what evidence would you have when you
improve your practice in this element?
of Practice
Parents will receive regular communication about students’ progress. Communications
will be sent through weekly progress reports, translated when necessary. Online parent
communication tools, phone calls, and emails will be used to communicate with
families. Parents will sign off on all communications and provide comments when
necessary.

Develop a weekly progress report for students that will be signed and brought
back with comments from parents
Develop a portfolio to maintain records of the frequency of communication
with parents. The portfolio will contain copies of letters sent home, signed
copies of pre and post assessments as well as a calendar of my scheduled dates
of communication
Work with the school’s parent center for translation services and support

4b3- Engagement of Families in the Instructional Program
Improvement Considering the rubric for the element selected above, what evidence would you have when you
improve your practice in this element?
of Practice
Families will be engaged in their child’s instructional program throughout the year. They
will have opportunities to participate through various methods (projects, assignments,
surveys, etc.)

Implement a student daily reflection log to be sent home each week for review
by a parent/guardian
Design and incorporate projects that involve family participation (ex: charting
family’s use of natural resources in the Environmental Awareness unit)
Send home a family survey that will provide information on the families’
interests and hobbies to be incorporated in later assignments

In order to improve in this element it is essential that I use student outcomes to help
me reflect on my current practice. If there is a lack of understanding of concepts or
content by my students then I will plan to improve my current techniques and strategies
to improve student learning.
