Hello
By learning more about our school family we are building connectedness and an understanding of the
richness that each person brings to St Brigid' School. This week we are celebrating Greek culture. Greece
is located in southeast Europe, close to both Africa and Asia. Did you know the highest mountain in
Greece is Mount Olympus, it has over 50 peaks with the highest reaching 2917 metres? We are waiting
patiently for the Olympics to start on 5 August. Did you know that the Olympic Games originated in
Ancient Greece? Some events in Ancient times were chariot racing, long jump, javelin throw, and discus
throw, boxing and wrestling. Do you know what sports are included for 2016?
What a blessed celebration we had at St Peter and Paul's Church on Sunday when
40 young people were confirmed. It was a special time led by Cardinal John Dew
who through his homily shared how important it is for families to pray together
every day. Reminding children that we have so many blessings in our lives and
taking a moment each day to share a conversation with God helps us build our
faith and gives us strength of character and gentleness of heart.
May all these students from St Brigid’s who were confirmed feel God's presence in
their lives today, tomorrow and always.

students for this celebration.

St Brigid's School Performances
Thank you so much to all the parents who have given us feedback about the amazing "Team Tahi Around
the World" performance. The students certainly enjoyed sharing their acting, dancing and singing with
the school community. However, it has raised a concern for us as a school and we would appreciate
your thoughts on a matter.

We found there were so many phones/cameras/videos being taken of the performance that it got
in the way of others seeing the show.

We don't think this is fair to others as we are encouraging students to use their eyes and enjoy
live performances. For future performances we ask that photos/videos are only taken before or
after the show and not during the performance.
We would appreciate your feedback by email to [email protected].
Chickenpox
Headlice / Nits
We have a number of children away at the
moment with chickenpox. The Ministry of
Health recommends that any children with spots
be kept at home until all the blisters have dried
– this usually takes 7 to 10 days.
We have been notified of a few cases of headlice in
various classes throughout the school. Please
regularly check your child’s hair and treat as necessary.
Please help to prevent the spread of headlice by
keeping long hair tied back.
Scholastic – Lucky Book Club
Some parents may recall ordering books from the Lucky Book Club
when they were at school! St Brigid’s is now happy to offer families
an opportunity to order a large range of books at very competitive
prices (some as low as $2 each!) from Scholastic and Lucky Book
Club. The books are sent to the school to be distributed to the
children so you don’t have to pay freight. Scholastic has now placed
their catalogues on line and has set up an on line ordering system,
and best of all, when you purchase books, St Brigid’s receives
points which we can use to buy books for our library.
You can view the Lucky Book Club catalogue at:
http://www.scholastic.co.nz/schools/book-club/. Click on Issue 4 to
view the catalogue. If you would like to purchase any books just
note the 3 digit code next to the title.
To order go to https://mybookclub.scholastic.co.nz/Parent/ClubManagement.aspx. Type in the postcode
6037 and find St Brigid’s School on the drop down list then click “Start Order” then check it is St Brigid’s
School and Issue 4 and click “Order”.
Strength of character and gentleness of heart
Click on “How to Order” on the next screen and that will take you through a Wizard that will show you
how to proceed with the order.
Orders need to be made by Friday 24 June 2016. If you order after this date, the books will be sent to
your home and you will be charged freight. If you have any questions regarding this or have any
problems ordering, please email [email protected].
Johnsonville Combined Churches Op Shop - DESPERATE FOR HELP
The Op Shop donates generously each year to St Brigid's School. They are in desperate need of
volunteers. They require people to help out. It depends on the number of volunteers we have which
determines the number of times you are on duty – it could be once or twice a year. That is not a huge
commitment. Please support this worthy organisation that does so much for others and support St
Brigid's School. Please contact Yvette Elliston at [email protected] or Fiona Kearns
at [email protected] for further contact details.
Lost
Vinnie Reeve from Room 7 has lost his jersey with his name sewn in red inside. If
found, could you please return to him or hand into the office. Thank you.
St Brigid's Read-A-Thon
Welcome to Book Week! We hope you are enjoying the extra activities
the teachers have organised. On Wednesday is our Book Character Dress
up day! We’ll have some prizes for the best dressed in each team.
Mary Ann Mulqueen has organised bookmarks for sale in the Library for
50c or $1. This is part of our Fair craft stall.
It is also the last week for adding books to your reading log. You can add
them up until this Friday, 17 June.
Returning Forms & Money
Please make sure that you collect all the money from your sponsors
before you return it to the class teacher. Please place the money, reading log and sponsor forms in a
named envelope with “Read-A-Thon” on the front.
Prizes
We will announce the winners of the prizes at assembly on Friday 8 July. In order to be eligible for the
prizes you must have your money and forms in by Wednesday 6 July. You can still bring your money
in after Wednesday but it won’t be considered for the prizes.
Strength of character and gentleness of heart
The prizes are:
Class spot prize - Anyone taking part in the Read-A-Thon will go into a class prize draw.
