GRADE THREE SUMMER READING LIST 2017
June 1, 2017
Dear Rising Third Graders,
Summer is a wonderful time of exploration! We invite you to explore the world
of books in new and personal ways. Enjoy the moments you spend reading, both the
wonderful required readings and something that is not required. Our wish is that you
may find many moments to read a new author, as well as take time to read aloud to your
family or friends.
The attached reading list includes suggestions of books that represent a wide
range of third grade reading material and allows for differences in reading interest and
ability. To help select an appropriate book for your reading level, we suggest you:




Open a book to the center page.
Read aloud one full page.
Check to see if you can read most of the words.
If you miss more than two words, unless they are proper nouns or names, select a
book that is easier to read, one that is interesting and comfortable to read alone.
We hope you will enjoy going to the library and choosing books for summer reading
fun. You may pick books from this suggested list or you may find new ones that you
would like to recommend to us. We want the reading to be fun and an adventure.
Please record the title and author of the books you read on the record sheet at the
end of the Third Grade list. You must read at least five (5) books. On the first day of
school in September please bring in the list that both you and your parents have
signed.
Sincerely,
Your 3rd Grade Teachers
