Letter from the Executive Director
It’s been another amazing year for the Maryland Agricultural Education
Foundation! Thanks to MAEF’s creative and devoted staff and teachers, approved
programs in agricultural education are reaching more students at all grade levels
across the state. MAEF’s outreach to Farm Based Educators continues to expand and
reach new audiences. I am impressed and proud to see that children and parents are
benefitting from the integration of agriculture into their everyday lessons and lives
thanks to MAEF.
Agricultural Education garnered positive visibility during the legislative session with
the bills introduced by Senator Gail Bates and Delegate Mike McKay during the last
legislative session. We appreciate their support as well as the countless supporters who
spoke on behalf of the bill. We are optimistic that the momentum started within the
past year will continue.
Working with the board of directors, I continue to appreciate the depth of expertise and commitment that
each board member brings to the table. Their enthusiasm and support for the variety of educational programs
that MAEF delivers across the state is energizing. Their support in finding new resources for MAEF is also very
gratifying. I also greatly appreciate the time and thoughtfulness that the MAEF Board put into the strategic
planning process earlier this year. Charting the course for this dynamic organization is an exciting and
continuing process for each of us.
While we continue to welcome new board members, the death of Jerry Truitt and Shirley Zimmerman in the
past year greatly saddened our MAEF Family. Their leadership, vision and devotion to MAEF set a standard for
all of us to continue in MAEF’s daily work.
Each one of us have opportunities and indeed responsibilities to tell the agricultural story to those who enjoy
the bounty of agriculture in their daily lives without knowing the complexities of how their food produced.
Encouraging a friend to buy an Ag Tag to support MAEF programs is an easy step we can all do. Continuing the
conversation and expanding educational programs for the next generation is a humbling and motivating task.
Thank you for your continued support of MAEF and I look forward to another exciting year working together in
whatever role you may play in the MAEF family.
Gail Yeiser
MAEF Board President
It has become increasingly challenging to
communicate all that MAEF does for agriculture in education in Maryland and beyond.
There are the core signature programs like the
mobile science labs, the Showcase, teacher
training, curriculum development, and Maryland FFA. Then there are the many other
activities that fall into the categories of facilitation and advocacy. This past fiscal year
has seen growth in all areas.
MAEF’s talented, dedicated, credentialed and long-serving
professionals on staff work closely with many institutional partners
at the universities, colleges, community colleges, the department of *2015-2016 Mobile Science Lab Outreach:

2015-2016 General Outreach:
The Foundation’s ability to expand outreach is proportional to the
growth of the Maryland Ag Tag sales and revenues. We encourage
everyone to promote Ag Tag sales to family, friends, colleagues, business associates, contractors, vendors, new drivers, new graduates, and new
car owners.
