Background Nashville Pride was formed in 1988 as a volunteer group meeting to produce the first LGBT Pride festival in Tennessee. Each year following that first festival has seen increased growth. In 2003, the group incorporated as "Our Pride Encompasses Nashville (OPEN)," but continues to operate under the more familiar "Nashville Pride." The group is led by a board of directors, comprised of 11 positions, elected by the membership. Impact Accomplishments: Produced annual GLBT Pride Festival which grew in attendance from 10,000 to 18,000 attendees. Began community volunteer awards program to honor those making signifcant contributions to the GLBT community. Reached out to partner with other GLBT community organizations to begin a GLBT day of service and volunteerism, Erased organizational debt through sponsorship and fundraising efforts. Secured funding from major community corporations. Goals: Increase attendance at annual festival, build financial surplus, increase awareness of LGBT issues and concerns in Tennessee and begin GLBT scholarship program Needs Most Pressing Needs are: 1. Funds to produce annual festival. Cost of the festival and related events is close to $300,000. This is due to larger venue, increased participation of area non-profits and vendors. 2. Volunteers - The festival and events leading up to the festival require over 100 volunteers. 3. Secession Planning - We are hoping to begin a secession plan so that board knowledge is not lost from year to year. 4. Financial Planning - We have begun a 'rainy day' fund with a goal to save 100% of the cost of an annual festival. 5. Diversity - Our goal is to bring more minority and/or straight allies into leadership and planning positions.
