Estimated $12,000 loss just from those lost days. ii. Motion by Jim L. second by Todd S. Carries. V. Manager of Baseball Operations Report: a) Year 1 Review i. For the most part the season went well. Obviously some things to change. Add some fundraisers. VI. Old Business: VII. New Business: a) Season Recap i. Age Levels ii. Little League – Things went smoothly again. A few things to make decision on related to traveling team selection. Little League affiliation and whether to continue this. iii. Bombers – Went well outside of a scheduling mistake with the Gray state tournament which was on the original master calendar for the wrong weekend. Class “A” baseball website will be created at their October 2 meeting. iv. Bullets – Communication issues where games got cancelled but nothing was communicated by other towns (rain, changes) v. JL – None vi. Bandits – Too many tournaments and too many of them back to back weekends. Better served by contacting out of town teams, scheduling doubleheaders with teams rather than extra tournaments where the idea to play to win isn’t necessarily top priority. Additionally, no seniors went to the senior games in Lake Norden but someone dropped the ball by not signing them up for these games. vii. Home Tournaments 1. Explore making a team that doesn’t have a home tournament not have to earn tournament points. 2. Determine whether to have a Bandits home tournament in the future or replace that with an alumni weekend (softball Friday night, golf tourney Saturday, 9-inning Sunday noon game) viii. Region and State Tournaments 1. American Legion Region 1A Tournament 2. South Dakota “A” Baseball 13/14 Majors Region Tournament 3. South Dakota “A” Baseball 13/14 Minors State Tournament ix. Budget Considerations and Needs for 2017 1. Vans a. Times we didn’t take vans out of town because of lack of air conditioning, safety, etc. 2. Bob Shelden Scoreboard 3. Little League mounds and new pitching machines a. Frustrating seeing our players pitching out of deep holes by the pitching rubber. Either purchase or over-build mounds for Little League. Additionally, pitching machines for each team that aren’t necessarily electric-powered. 4. Trailers or a third vehicle 5. Website a. Complete remodel of the site like what Brandon Valley and Brookings Rangers use. b) Brookings Cubs Recap c) 2017 Tournament Dates d) Annual Meeting and Elections VIII. IX. Establish Date and Time for Next Meeting: Tuesday, September 20, 7:00 pm? Adjourn: Cubs recap Definite improvement from 2015 when the team was just being reformed. Final record was 8-11 which doesn't sound that good but they were 2-18 in 2015. And 3 of top 4 pitchers didn't throw a pitch due to injury. Hung with state champs twice despite guys playing out of position both games. Beat a couple state tourney teams and had state runners up on the ropes in regions but ran out of pitching. Will be adjusting schedule in 2017 so as to play Sunday and Wednesday league games with non league games on other days to avoid as many conflicts as possible. Scheduling essentially one game per rostered player. Hoping for support of FOB so as to allow for this scheduling and maybe hold a couple doubleheader type dates with a Cubs game to follow a bandits game. Additionally be able to have home games in May and June and not be given scraps as far as available dates. Didn't have a home game until June 30 this year and it's very hard to get a team concept going when our first 8 games are on the road. Thanks to FOB for their support for 2016 and hope to have it again in 2017 and the future. The umpiring thing didn't work out as planned with the FOB tourney becoming an in-house tourney and the second tourney getting an entire day wiped out. Roster for 2017 already stands at about 25 and that includes no SDSU players. Sounds like a lot but with coaches and conflicts that's a very fluid number. One other thing to clear up and that's related to players and eligibility. Had incorrect info which led to some confusion at the end of this season. I was informed at the beginning that only super seniors and graduating players were eligible to play. That is wrong and that all legion players are eligible at any time and can play during their legion season so long as they do not pitch. I would not allow an FOB player to play at any point during their season but once their season ends it's entirely their decision if they want to play amateur baseball so long as that season is still in progress. It's an individual decision left up to the player and their parents. Don't want make this sound defensive on the part of myself or the Cubs but FOB has zero say in the decision of any player to participate with the Cubs before or after their FOB season ends. Wouldn’t be opposed to letting FOB families do gate to earn their points but it’s something to discuss.
