Our Annual dues collection efforts by Office Staff have been exceptional. We have only 5 delinquent members out of approximately 600. Liens have been filed for delinquent members. Special thanks to all members for your timely payment of Annual Dues. We have had three liens paid recently for an additional $8,646.43. We are continuing to review remaining list for Small Claims Actions. We continue to execute our Budget within plan, we are exceeding revenue projections. The recently completed clubhouse improvements of kitchen and ceiling upgrades are fine examples of Community Projects adding value for membership. Special thanks to all the volunteers that took these projects from vision to reality, within budget. With the help of Finance Committee and Policy and Procedures Committee we are working on developing a Reserve Status Report that will be published this month. POTLUCK NEWS by Susan Frank January’s potluck was a great start to our year. Even though John and I weren’t near. We were in Bothell, awaiting our Grandchild’s birth. She didn’t disappoint, as she entered our earth. Now March is upon us. So it is time to get together again. Come on out and enjoy the evening. What could be better, than spending time with friends? Saturday, March 26, 2016 Driftwood Key Clubhouse 5PM Social Hour 6PM Dinner Eleanor Alice Frank (Ellie) Thankfully we had talented hosts. Who were ready to take charge and not boast. Susan Frank 638-2496 UPDATED COMMITTEES' MEMBERSHIP LISTING by Linda Hell By the time you read this, the DKC website will have an updated Committees’ Membership List. We do our best to provide the latest information to you, but the Membership changes often. The member’s name listed first is the responsible Chair of that committee. We hope that you find this useful. 4 KEYNOTES March, 2016 the club house meeting room was the second major project. Kirby Jones was our project manager and the work was done quickly and efficiently. He worked closely with a conscientious contractor and our volunteers who installed acoustical ceiling tiles and new LED light fixtures. BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS REPORT by Ron Bruhn December and January were busy times for our Buildings and Grounds staff and volunteers, who made major improvements to the clubhouse. We teamed up with the Events Committee to replace the kitchen appliances and also did a minor amount of remodeling in the club house kitchen. Sheila Larsen was project manager, and her Events Committee worked closely with Steve Lindberg and our Buildings and Grounds volunteers to bring the project in on time and well within the budget. The results are by all reports excellent! The noise level is greatly reduced enabling people to hold normal conversations during gatherings. The lighting is bright and energy efficient, and the club house has an attractive and modern interior. The Buildings and Grounds Committee remains active, with a monthly meeting at the Water Front Park utility building held the first Wednesday of each month at 1 pm. The old electric stove was replaced with a new propane stove, the refrigerator was replaced with a new energy efficient model, and we added a convection oven that greatly enhances food preparation. The fluorescent lights were also replaced with new LED units. Personally, I want to thank all of the folks on the Committee for their enthusiasm, great ideas, and volunteer work! I am also very pleased with our staff: Rich Heussy, Sue Gray and Max Wisner. They keep the buildings and grounds in great shape and are a joy to interact with. Improving the acoustics and ambiance of LOT MAINTENANCE by Justin Childs The Lot Maintenance Committee (LMC) would like to welcome Justin Childs to the Board of Trustees and for Chairing LMC. We would like to ask all members to take a check of all your trees and shrubs to see that they are not over the height limit, or blocking any of your neighbors’ view. Also check to see if you comply with the covenants. It is always a good idea to take care of your view obstruction, in all forms before it becomes an issue with your neighbor or while cost is affordable. If you have any questions about the covenants please call the office or go online to read the covenants. Send lot maintenance and view obstruction complaints to the office so they can be forwarded to LMC. 5 KEYNOTES March, 2016 Continued from page 2 “EVENTS” This event could not have been the success it was without the Volunteers and you, the Community. AN EXPLANATION OF DKC’s FINANCES by Linda Hell, Finance Committee I will be submitting a short article each month that will provide a Description and Scope of DKC Funds, starting with an Overview: The Club applies fund-based accounting methodology to keep track of finances. A Fund is a collection of financial accounts (bank, income, and expense accounts) that serve to maintain accountability for the Fund’s stated purpose. There are two Operating funds: The Club Fund, a general fund that supports the club's day to day business activities, including general maintenance and repair and, the Marina Fund, that is solely dedicated to support Marina Operations and maintenance. In addition, the Club has two Reserve Funds: the Facilities and Maintenance Restoration Fund and the Harbor/ Dredging Fund. The Marina’s future dock replacement reserves are not held in a separate fund but rather in a separate bank account as part of the Marina Fund. The Operating Funds hold cash assets to cover daily operations and regular maintenance and repairs. The Reserve Funds hold cash assets accumulated toward future restoration and replacement needs of existing assets and as a cushion to meet major unexpected expenses.
