Summary: Representation in Congress is important to our democracy because the
representatives in Congress reflect the diverse interests of the country and have the
power to make laws. The framers of the Constitution created a bicameral Congress
to divide power and provide a system of checks and balance. The House represents
the people. The Senate represents the states.

Summary: Representation in Congress is important to our democracy since
Congress is the branch of government that is closest to the people and represents the
people. The Missouri Compromise of 1820 kept a balance in the Senate since
Missouri was admitted into the Union as a slave state and Maine as a free state. Each
new state got to two Senators, therefore keeping a balance between northern/free
state interest and southern/slave state interests. California currently has more seats in
the House since it has more people living there than any other state. If I have a
political concern, I should contact my representative in the House _____.
