Quick Scan for TU/e students
at organizations
Are you looking for ways to improve your business?
Ever considered working together with bachelor’s
students Industrial Engineering of the Eindhoven
University of Technology (TU/e) to make a Quick Scan
of your business? Please, read further.
What does a Quick Scan offer your company?
A Quick Scan is typically done by students in the third
year of their bachelor’s program. The objective of the
Quick Scan is to describe the business processes
within your company from different points of view,
including business economics, information systems,
operations management, work and organizational
psychology and new product development and
marketing. For your company, this means a
comprehensive view on the current state of how you
run your business. The Quick Scan can be the basis
for follow-up bachelor’s and master’s projects.
Where innovation starts
What do we expect from your company?
Each student is supervised by a university staff
member and a company supervisor, where the
company supervisor:
• is the contact person for the student within the
company
• introduces the student into the company
• takes care that the student has a place to work
• takes care that the student can access all data
he/she needs for the project
• has meetings with the student to discuss about
the project and the progress he/she makes
• reads the reports of the student
• is present when the student presents her/his
findings at the company
• gives his/her input to the university supervisor
on the way the student did the internship. This
concerns the way the student collaborated with
the people in the organization, the way the student
organized his/her work, his/her communication
skills, the level of independency.
Leontien Cremers, Student Industrial Engineering
The reason I liked performing the Quick Scan most is that it offers
you a unique view inside a company’s business. I finally had the
possibility to put theory into practice and find out that things can
actually be far more unruly than they initially might seem from the
outside. It places you in a more entrepreneurial position instead of the
consumer position we are all familiar with. The Quick Scan was therefore
an interesting experience for me.
Ilvy Ploegmakers, Student Industrial Engineering
Finally, it was out of the classroom and into the world of business
and industry to see how things ‘really’ work. The Quick Scan allowed
me to take a look behind the scenes at Dura Vermeer. It’s fascinating to
see how all the business aspects come together within an organization.
I benefited a lot from finding out about Dura Vermeer in this way during
my graduation period.
Project duration
A student has 280 hours available for executing the
project with a throughput time of about 10 weeks,
meaning about 3 full days per week that a student
can spend on the project. This time is spent in your
company and/or at TU/e, depending on the type of
project.
Costs for company
Apart from the hours spent on supervising, no further
costs are involved.
• the Quick Scan is a good way for the student to
become acquainted with your company before
starting a bachelor’s project
• the Quick Scan gives your company a broad,
multi-disciplinary view of the organization and
the business processes. This is a perfect way to
discover problems or research questions in the
business processes, which can be an excellent
subject to analyse in depth in the bachelor’s
project.
Combination Quick Scan and bachelor’s project
For students it is possible to do their Quick Scan and
their bachelor’s project in the same company. This
has the following advantages for your company:
