“The Business of Hollywood” presentation by Rob Swartz in the North
Clubhouse Conference Room This is a MANDATORY event.
To understand the life cycle, challenges and strategies of creating a
television program, from concept to air and to gain an overview of the
television business.
STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
-To learn the process of how several genres of programming are made.
-To give students a real world understanding of how the industry works,
therefore preparing them for careers in entertainment.
-This seminar also offers students the opportunity to learn to operate and
manage business structures, personnel, budgets, advertising, sales,
research, and regulation of independent, studio and network electronic
media.

Directions:
Left on Barham, go to the end and make a left on Cahuenga.
Follow Cahuenga,, it will turn into Highland.
Make a left on Sunset
Make a right on Las Palmas. LOOK AT THE STREET SIGNS for parking.
You can park on Sunset starting at 7PM. When you get to the studio register at the
front desk - tell them you are from Elon. Please be on time, starts promply at 7:15. If
you are late do not enter the theatre if the red light is on, the scene will last for 15-
20 minutes, when the red light goes off you can enter. NO CELL PHONES. I have
seen people get kicked out for cell phone use.

Movie synopsis: A group of British retirees decide to "outsource" their retirement to
less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly
restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, they arrive to
find the palace a shell of its former self. Though the new environment is less
luxurious than imagined, they are forever transformed by their shared experiences,
discovering that life and love can begin again when you let go of the past.

Join for a hike through the “Rainforest” of Hollywood, leading to a hidden swing!

Right on Mulholland Drive
Look for signs for the Nancy Hoove Pohl Overlook. There is a small free parking lot
and parking available on the street.

Dodgers vs. White Sox Game at Dodgers Stadium (1000 Elysian Park Ave., Los
Angeles)
This is an optional event and the game starts at 7:10. Come join us for America’s
favorite summer pastime and enjoy a night of baseball and Dodger Dogs! We will
distribute tickets to your apartments. Parking at the stadium is $10.00 and there are
4 parking lots:
 Sunset Gate at Sunset Blvd. and Elysian Park
 Golden State Gate at Stadium Way and Academy Drive



Turn left onto Stadium Way
Turn Left onto Academy Drive
Enter the Golden State Gate or take another left onto Academy Drive to enter the
Academy Gate

Point Dume State Beach
This event is optional. Point Dume is a secluded beach in Malibu known for its
swimming, surfing, fishing and scuba diving. Access to Point Dume Natural Preserve
begins from the cul-de-sac. A gradual ascending trail leads to an ancient coastal bluff
sand dune. An incredible view encompassing the entire Santa Monica Bay, north
Malibu Coast, inland Santa Monica Mountains and distant Catalina Island may be
enjoyed from the top on a clear day. A boardwalk, just below the summit, leads to a
viewing platform. Bring some sunscreen and some snacks as there are no
restaurants and stores in the area—this is a different kind of beach than Santa
Monica and Venice!
Directions:
101 N, Take exit 32 for Las Virgenes Road
Turn Left on Las Virgenes Road and it will turn into Malibu Canyon Road
Turn Right onto CA-1/Pacific Coast Highway
Turn left on Westward Beach Road (There are signs for Point Dume)
Go all the way to the end, parking is $7.00
Go through the park all the way until you can’t go through anymore and we will be
by the rocks by the cliff.
