Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Sunday, June 19, 2016
Dear friends,
Rcently I read a story about a father who wanted to teach his four sons patience. He asked them to go and look at
a pear tree that was a great distance away. The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in
summer and the youngest son in the fall.
When they all came back, he called them together to describe what they had seen. The first son said that the
tree was ugly, bent and twisted. The second son said it was covered with green buds and full of promise. The third
son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful. The last son
disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment. The father, then,
said: You all are right because you have each seen but only one season in the tree’s life. He continued: We
cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season. We have to wait until the end to measure the worth.
The disciples had to wait until the resurrection of Jesus to have a clear picture of who Jesus was. Many of them
who had a ‘shortage of patience’ gave up their following, half way. Patience is crucial for success in every aspect
of life. Patience is not pleasant. It can be frustrating. At times it entails suffering. So Jesus said to his disciples, “If
anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” “A religion
that gives nothing, costs nothing and suffers nothing, is worth nothing.”
If we give up when it is winter, we will miss the promise of the spring, the beauty of the summer, and the
fulfillment of life. We must persevere through the difficult patches, and better times are sure to come. It is great
to have this prayer on our lips all the time: Here I am Lord; lead me; I am here to do your will.
May God bless you
veces implica sufrimiento.
voluntad”.
Que Dios los bendiga.

My second book, CORNERSTONE: Living Faith in the Real World, will be
available for purchase after all the Masses today, Sunday, June 19. In
this book, I discuss all the important aspects of our faith and various
tools available for growing in our faith. It is Scripture based and gives
much food for thought. Each theme is developed through humorous
stories, inspiring anecdotes and real life experiences. Anyone who is
looking for a spiritual guide, this is it.
This book is a souvenir of the Silver Jubilee of my Priestly Ordination.
The purpose of this book, along with providing you with spiritual
inspiration, is to raise funds to support my Carmelites Mission in North
India. I am asking for a minimum donation of $20.00 per book. Buy
one for yourself, buy one for your friends. Thank you for your
support. You can also purchase the book from the Parish Office (209
N. Hanford Ave.) after June 19.

Holy Trinity School
The school exists to build the future church by
educating the children in the Catholic faith. Religion is
taught daily; students attend Mass weekly as a class
and monthly as a Student Body. Students are provided
daily opportunities to pray and share their faith.
Academically, through differentiated instruction, the
integration of technology, and current instructional
methodologies, students are highly engaged in learning
in all subject areas. Students are taught in a safe,
caring, learning environment by highly qualified
teachers. Students have the opportunity to participate
in a wide variety of enrichment activities and sports.
Social Justice is an important part of the learning at
Holy Trinity School, and each class participates in a
project to assist others.

Saints Alive Society
The Saints Alive Society here at Holy Trinity is a ministry
dedicated to portraying the lives of the Saints. We use
drama, artwork, costumes, and music to tell their
stories. We feature a live presentation of one Saint
each month and in November we put on a pageant
called Saints Alive, where we present the lives of
various Saints during a one and a half hour program.
Participation from all ages is welcome and no
experience is required. It’s fun, it’s exciting, and we
really connect with God and His Saints in a personal
and uplifting way.
HTPA (Holy Trinity Parents Association)
The HTPA at Holy Trinity School is the parent
organization that serves two purposes: to build
community and to raise funds for the school.
Community building activities include such things as
our Back to School Mass and Coffee, Fall Event, Food
Truck Days, Coffee with the Principal, and Nonreturning Parents Dinner. Fundraising events are
Monte Carlo Night, the Golf Tournament, Eat for HT
Nights, and the major school fundraisers are the
Wrapping Paper Drive, the Candy Sale, and the Cookie
Dough Sale. Parents also provide much support to the
teachers through their work as Room Parents, which
allow the school to provide special events and
opportunities for the students.
For information about the HTPA, call the school office
at (310) 833-0703 or visit our website at
school.holytrinitysp.org or our Face Book page at
https://www.facebook.com/holytrinityschoolsp
Communications & Technology Committee
The primary mission of the Communications &
Technology Committee is the creation and
maintenance of the parish and school web sites. Our
secondary mission is to use our technology know-how
to improve the audio and video systems for some of
our parish events. We are responsible for collecting
information about upcoming parish and school events,
and posting that information on the web sites. Our goal
is to keep parishioners and school parents informed of
all programs and events that are going on at our parish
and school, to increase participation in those events, in
order to create a community that is closer to Christ.

A Prayer for Fathers
God our Father, we give you thanks and praise for
fathers young and old.
We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their
vocation; May they find courage and perseverance
to balance work, family and faith in joy and
sacrifice.
We pray for our own Fathers around the world
whose children are lost or suffering; May they know
that the God of compassion walks with them in
their sorrow.
We pray for men who are not fathers but still
mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice.
We remember fathers, grandfathers, and great
grandfathers who are no longer with us but who
live forever in our memory and nourish us with
their love. Amen

Safeguard The Children
Monday:
Did You Know?
Tuesday:
Protect kids from bullying while playing online
The pace of online gaming is only growing. There is a
small but real chance that victimization could occur
when kids play and interact with others on phones,
tablets, laptops, desktops and gaming consoles. A
helpful way to teach children about handling problems is
to encourage them to report issues when they arise.
Internet service providers and gaming networks have
systems set up to field complaints of abuse and then
investigate them (in conjunction with law enforcement,
when necessary). For more tips on how to help protect
young people from vulnerabilities while playing online
please email [email protected] or call 213637-7227 to receive a copy of the VIRTUS® article
“Preventing Cyberbullying in Online Gaming, Part 2.”
Protegiendo a los Niños
¿Sabe Usted?
electrónico a [email protected] o llame
al (213) 637-7508para recibir una copia del artículo de
VIRTUS®, “Preventing Cyberbullying in Online Gaming,
Part 2” (Previniendo el acoso cibernético en los juegos
en línea, Parte 2).

Luke 9:51-62
“No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what
was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.“
—Luke 9:62
Scripture Focus:
Today’s Gospel spells out what it means to follow
Jesus, to be his disciple. James and John, “sons of
thunder,” angry at being rejected by the Samaritans,
want to call down fire from heaven to consume Jesus’
enemies. Jesus says there is no room for getting even
in the Christian way of life. There is to be no violence.
Luke develops the theme of discipleship further using
three examples. Jesus tells the one who offers to follow
him “wherever he goes” of the hardships involved. His
strange reply to the man who wants to go home first to
bury his father underlines the urgency to get on with
proclaiming the reign of God. And finally there is a
singleness of purpose involved in being a follower of
Jesus. There can be no looking back to what one has
left behind.
Reflection:
1. How do you react when someone criticizes you or is
hostile to you?
2. When in your life have you been called to change
direction (put your hand to a different “plow”)
because of your desire to be a follower of Jesus?
3. What does it mean to your everyday life to be a
follower of Jesus?
