Dear Mary Star of the Sea Parishioners,
We wish you all a very Blessed and Holy New Year and Feast of the Epiphany. On this day Christ
revealed Himself not only to His own people Israel, but to the entire Gentile world including you
and I. The Three Kings represent all of us throughout the entire world. Christ did not come to be
the Messiah only for His own people but He came to be the Savior for all. This is the meaning of
the word Epiphany. It means Manifestation or showing. God showed Himself as a humble new
born Babe to all of us, the word Incarnate made Flesh, so “Come Let Us Adore Him.” Christ
manifested Himself two thousand years ago as a Man among us. But more importantly, He
continues to manifest Himself among us each and every day in Holy Mass, where He again
becomes Flesh in the Holy Eucharist. “O Come Let Us Adore Him”. Many people in His own day
did not recognize Him as the Messiah or God. Many today, do not recognize Him in the Holy
Eucharist as Messiah or God. This is a sad reality of our day. So many Catholics and nonCatholics refuse to believe in the real presence of Jesus in the Most Holy Eucharist. And yet He is
truly present there in every Tabernacle in every Catholic Church here and throughout the world.
Many will say if, “I don’t see it I can’t believe in it.” I would say to them, “When was the last time
you saw gravity?” And yet we know that it exists. Or when was the last time you saw oxygen and
yet we breathe it every day, therefore we know it exists. Jesus hid Himself as King of the Universe
as a small baby in Bethlehem. He hides Himself now as King of the Universe, as a small Host in
the Tabernacle so that we like the Three Kings can receive Him with Joy and Adore Him.
This is why it is so important for us to receive our Blessed Lord worthily. Holy Communion is
such a precious gift to each and every one of us. Jesus wishes to give Himself entirely to our heart
and soul, yet we have to be prepared to receive Him worthily, so that it may be a true Communion
with our God. What does it mean to receive worthily? First and foremost we must be Catholic.
Secondly we must be free of grave or mortal sin. To receive Holy Communion, in the state of grave
or mortal sin does not help us but rather hurts us and offends Almighty God. Therefore, if we are
conscious of any grave or mortal sin, it is better not to receive Holy Communion but rather to go to
Confession first so that we can cleanse our souls and truly receive our Blessed Lord worthily after
confession.
The Three Kings travelled a great distance to worship our Blessed Lord, we have only to go a few
blocks or miles to worship our Blessed Lord. They were rewarded for receiving Him worthily, so
too will we be rewarded for receiving Him worthily in Holy Communion. Then He will manifest in
our souls as He manifested to them that He is truly our God and Messiah. “O Come Let Us Adore
Him”.
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Harrigan
Pastor

Did You Know?/¿Sabia Usted?
Start the new year with your kids’ safety in mind:
During the start of a new year, many resolve to do things
differently: pray more, live better and cherish God’s gifts. It’s
also a great time to recommit to putting the safety and wellbeing of children first. Look to Mary, the Mother of God, for
examples. Model honesty, gratitude, and love to your children,
and take steps to teach them about safety in the home and the
world. This resolution to promote safety and happiness can
make your new year the best one yet. For a copy of the
VIRTUS© article “Mother of Good Counsel Protect the

Holy Hour
In order to convert America and save the world what we need is for
every parish to come before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in
Holy Hours of prayer (St. Mother Teresa)
Every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. there is a Eucharistic Holy Hour in
our church. The Holy Hour begins with exposition of The Blessed
Sacrament. Within the hour, there are readings from Sacred
Scripture and the saints, time for silent reflection, and the Chaplet
of Divine Mercy. The Holy Hour concludes with
Benediction. Please come and spend one hour with Jesus. This is
a special time of abundant blessings for all!
