Battle of the BANDS Partnership between Universal Fairs & The City of Glendale If you are a high school or middle school musician who has ever dreamed of recording your own music video, here is your chance. Win prizes, be treated like a rock star complete with swag bags. Play in front of screaming fans and have your band heard by professional musicians! A chance for youth to showcase their talents Bring the community together Support Glendale Youth Universal Fairs in partnership with the City of Glendale is inviting all middle school and high school students to participate in its Battle of the Bands competition! Bands will be selected to perform at the West Valley Fair and Music Festival on the Great Lawn next to the University of Phoenix Stadium and Westgate. If your band is selected, you will be performing in front of hundreds of people. You’ll be appearing on a professional 20 X 28 stage complete with a backline (full 5-piece drum set, Cymbal pack, Base Amp and Guitar Amp) Full lighting and sound system. Feel free to bring your own snare drum, guitar amp and cymbals. We will provide the base amp. Winning band will open for the talent during the concert on the Great Lawn that night – Saturday, March 4!!! Groups will be allowed to be on stage for 20 minutes including setup and teardown. Each band may sing two songs. One cover (family friendly) and one completely original. The theme for the original song must be Glendale’s Got Game! Every band that is chosen to compete will receive a swag bag complements of Universal Fair and the City of Glendale. Winner will record their own demo in a professional sound studio. Second, and Third place prizes will be awarded at the concert. All types of bands and musical genres are welcome to apply. Bands must submit all lyrics in legible form, and fill out all necessary applications and have parental consent form signed (anyone who is under the age of 18) in order to be considered. For the purpose of this competition band is defined as two or more people with at least one person playing a musical instrument. 2. Members of the band must be currently attending middle school or high school. 3. Band members must be prepared to submit a typed copy of the lyrics they will perform. Lyrics cannot include profanity, racist remarks, sexually explicit content or violence. 4. Bands may bring their own snare drum, Guitar Amp and cymbal. 5. Equipment cannot be dropped off and left unattended at the event. Universal Fair and the City of Glendale are not responsible for any band equipment left unattended. 6. Bands will have 20 minutes to set up, perform and disband. Any band that goes over the allotted time will have points deducted. Each band may sing two songs. One original with Glendale’s Got Game as the theme. The second can be a family friendly cover song. 7. Only the band members listed on the registration form will be allowed on stage. 8. A panel of judges will score musicians on a point system. Judging criteria includes technical proficiency, musicality, performance, creativity and audience reaction. 9. The removal of clothing and the use of obscene language and gesture are prohibited and will result in the band being disqualified. All clothing must be event appropriate (family friendly). 10. All band members/Guardians must sign release forms in packet. 11. All band members under 18 must have parent permission. 12. All band members must show up at 9:00 AM. (subject to change) for registration and sound check. 13. All completed applications and registration fees must be received no later than March 1 (5 p.m.) 14. City of Glendale staff reserves the right to end a performance prematurely or remove the band from the lineup if the band does not fully comply with all of the rules and regulations outlined above.
