MISCELLANEOUS MOTHER TERESA M other Teresa was a Woman with a large heart. She who spent her full life serving humanity. Her original name was Anjeze Gonxhe Bojaxhiu. D.O.B. : 27th Aug., 1910 Place of Birth : Yugoslavia Mother Teresa moved to Kolkata in the year 1929 at the age of 19, with Rs. 5 in her pocket. She was helped by a priest in Kolkata. She spent nine years in one room where she took care of ill people. Mother Teresa opened several institutions to help the needy, sick and poor people. Missionaries of Charity, Nirmal Hriday and Shishu Bhawan are some of the institutions. She also took care of mentally and physically challenged children Mother Teresa was a woman of compassion and dignity. She was sympathetic and kind to old and helpless people. She was awarded with Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and the Bharat Ratna in 1980. She was the messenger of God on Earth. She passed away on September 5, 1997. MISCELLANEOUS SWAMI VIVEKANANDA A spiritual leader, a social D.O.B. : 12th Jan., 1865 Place of Birth : Kolkata, India reformer and a philosopher, the original name of Swami Vivekananda was Narendranath. He was born to the rich family of Shri Biswanath Dutta in Kolkata. He was a person who spent his life in search of truth. He was conducted to be the patriotic saint of India. He was notable and popular in school and college because of his good looks and hand come physique. He was educated in both western and Indian philosophy. He changed his name to Vivekananda at the suggestion of Mahraja Ajit Singh of Khetri. Vivekanand became the disciple of Shri Ramakrishna Paramahansadev. He attended the world Parliament of Religions at Chicago, USA in 1983 and represented India. Swamiji also formed Ramakrishna Mission in 1987 and carried out charity work for the welfare of humanity. He wrote a book by the name of 'Songs of the Sannyasin'. Vivekananda died very young, at the age of 39, in 1902. MISCELLANEOUS RABINDRANATH TAGORE R abindranath Tagore the D.O.B. : 7th May, 1861 Place of Birth : Kolkata, India Spouse : Mrinaini Devi write of eh National Anthan of our country belong to Tagore family. His father’s name was Debendranath Tagore and mothers name was Sharada Devi. His mother died at during his childhood and father used to travel regularly. At a very young age only Rabindranath started writing beautiful lines. Rabindranath was not interested in schooling, Later the even went to England to study but returned back without completing his studies. He wrote many books of poetry and novels specially in the area of human relationship and motherland. Tagore was awarded Nobal Prize for Leteralure in 1913 for his work ‘Gitanjali’ Tagore founded the Vishwa Bharati University Shantiniketan. Besides poetry he also created several dance, dramas, stories, novels, songs, music, drawings and musik himself. MISCELLANEOUS PREM CHAND M unshi Premchand D.O.B. : 31st July 1880 Place of Birth : Lamhi, India Spouse : Shivarani Devi commonly known as Premchand was a great and famus Hindi writer. Premchand’s father’s Dhanpat Rai Srivastaa was a post Office clerk and moter Anand Devi a homemaker. He did his schooling a a madrasa and learned Urdu and Persian Premchand cost his mother at a very early age of 8 and soon his father got him a step mother. As he did not enjoy good relation with his step mother he started engaging himself in reading books and became an avid reader. He became an assistant teacher at the Government District School in Bahraich in 1900. In 1901, his first story ‘Sansar ka “Sabse Anmol” Ratna’Rang bhumi, Prem Pachisi, Seva Sadan, Nirmal Munshi Premchand left the world in 1936 He was popularly known as ‘Upanyas Samrat’ among the Hindi storywriters. MISCELLANEOUS RANI LAKSHMI BAI / RANI OF JHANSI R ani Lakshmibai was orn on D.O.B. : 19th Nov., 1828 Place of Birth : Varanasi Died : 17th June 1858 Gwalior Children : Damodar, Anand Rao 19th Novembe, 1828 in the holy town of Varanasi. She was named Mani Karnika and kept nice name as manu. Mani Karnika was named to the Maharaja of Jhansi, Raja Gangadhar Rao Newalkar in1842. Afterwards in the honour of the Hindu goddess Lakshmi. She was called Laxmibai. After the death of Maharaja of Jhansi and in order to expanel British empire Lord Dalhousie, the Governor - General of India did not accept little damodar Rao as the legal heir and plan to annex jhansi on the ground that it did not have legal him. Rani Lakshmibai decided to fight against them and then she made his own army which include womens also to fight against britishers. In march 1858 fight began with britishers and last for two weeks. Army fought bravely though they have lost Jhansi. When britishers entered Jhansi first, Rani, Lakshmi Bai tied her son Damodar Rao to be back and fought bravely with them, them finally she had to escape to the fortran of kalpi under the cover of darkness. MISCELLANEOUS BAHADUR SHAH ZAFAR B ahadur Shah Zafar was the last mughual D.O.B. : 24th Oct., 1775 Died : 7th Nov., 1862 Spouse : Zinat Mahal emperor. After the death of Akbar - II he became the successor to his father. He was a nominal Emperor, as the Mughal Empire existed name only and his authority was Limited to the city of Delhi. The British exited him to Rangoom now in burma. Bahadur shah zafar was also noted as Urdu Poet having written a number of Urdu ghazals. At the age of 87 in the year 1862, he had acquired some illness. Zafar died on 7th November, 1862. MISCELLANEOUS MAHARANA PRATAP SINGH A ruler of Mewar the full D.O.B. : 9th May, 1540 Place of Birth : Kumbhalgarh Fort, Rajasthan Spouse : Maharani Ajbade Punwar Died : 29th Jan., 1597 name of Maharana Pratap was Maharana Pratap Singh Sisodia. He was the son of Udai Singh Ii and Rani Jaiwanta Bai. He belonged to Hindu religion. Pratap was crowned in 167 when he was only 27. At that lime chittor was surrounded by Mughal Emperor Akbar. His father decided to leave Chittor and go to Gogunda. Maharana Pratap wanted to fight with Mughals but was forced by the elder ones to leave Chittor. He came back t Chittor in 1567. He was called as Mahaputra of India. His birthday is celebrated on 3rd day of the Jyestha Shukla phase. He is till day remembered as fearless warrior in the history of India. MISCELLANEOUS CHANDRAGUPTA MAURYA A founder of Maurya Empir D.O.B. : 340 BCE Place of Birth : Patlipura (Bihar) Died : 297 BCE (age 41-42) Spouse : Durdhara and first emperor of entire India Chandragupta Maurya was one of the most pivotal figure in the history of India. Before he became the emperor of India. India was divided into mahajanpada. Chandragupta Maurya and Chankya his Chief advisor made many policies for economic and political reforms of country. He developed a very strong economy of India through internal and external trade, act and architecture. His people were happy and prosperous. He retired and abdicated his throne and gave it to his son Bindusara. Chandragupta became the follower of Jain monks. He lived as an ascetic during the last years of his life. MISCELLANEOUS A AKBAR kbar is popularly known as D.O.B. : 15th Oct., 1542 Akbar. Place of Birth : Umerkot Pakistan He was direct descendent of Spouse : Marium-uzZamini Died : 27th Oct., 1605 Jalal ud-din-Muhamad Ghengis khan and was grandson of Babur. Akbar expanded his military throughout his reign. His empire exended to Afganistan, Sindh, Bengal and Godavari. His success was a result of his ability to earn the loyalty of his people. He also defeated Rajput rulers. Akbar was known for his religious practice, intellect and loyalty. He didn’t even force Hindu people to convert themselves into muslims. He respected all the family members of his wives and gave them equal status. Some of Akbar’s courtiers were wlll known as navaratna or nine gems. He died in 1605 beause of serious illness but some say that he was poisoned. MISCELLANEOUS SHER SHAH SURI T he original name of Sher D.O.B. : 1486 Place of Birth : Sasaram, Rohtas District, Bihar Died : May 15, 1545 shah Suri was Farid Khan. He was given the name Sher because he killed tiger when he was young. Suri was taken from his town name. He was the son of a Jagirdar of Sasaram. He went to Jaunpur at the age of 45. He studies Arabic and Persian languages. He was appointed as deputy governors by Bahar Khan. He got many throne by defeaty rules in battles. He expanded his expire and a very short span of time. He was a very good administrator and did many reforms of his empire his provinces was known as Sarkars. He was the first ruler to introduce ‘Rupaiya’ and ‘paisa’. He also introduced custom duty. During his worked a lot on development of infrastructure such as mosques ‘roads’ inns etc. He died in 1545 in an accidental explosion. He was one of the most successful ruler of metieral India. MISCELLANEOUS PRITHVIRAJ CHAUHAN T he original name of D.O.B. : 1149 Place of Birth : Ajmer Spouse : Rathore (Gaharwal) Rani Samyukta Died : 1192 Prithviraj Chauhan was Raj Pithova. As a Rajput King of Chauhan dynasty, he ruled Ajmer and Delhi in the second half of 12th century. He ruled Ajmer and Delhi just at the age of 13 and was the last Independent Hindu King. Prithvi won the First Battle of Tarain in 1891 and defeated Shahabuddin Muhammad. He use to use elephant in battle rather than horses. Prithviraj defeated ghori several times. Every time he was left alive on mercy of Prithviraj. In one of the wors rajputs were defeated and chauhan was taken to Afganistan. After a lot of torture by ghori Prithivi and Chand stabbed each other. Prithviraj died at the age of 21. MISCELLANEOUS ASHOKA A shoka Maurya commonly D.O.B. : 304 BCE Place of Birth : Pataliputra Spouse : Maharani Devi Rani Padmavati Tishyaraksha, Karuvaki Died : 232 BCE known as Ashoka the Great was one of the greatest emperor of Maurya Dynasty. He rules almost the entire Indian subcontinent as a Hired ruler of the Mauryan Empire responsible for he was spreading Buddhism in many parts of the World. He was considered as one of the most fearsome king. He built up many stupas and pillars across his empire. He got royal military training since his childhoods. After his death of his father Bindusara he killed his 99 brothers with the support of his father’s ministers. He was constantly involved in wars and expansion of his empire. His ‘Ashoka Chakra’ was adopted into the Indian flag. He suffered a lot in his old age. In the last few years of his life he went to Texila and died at the age of 72. MISCELLANEOUS SHIVJI c hhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja real name is Maratha King : 19th Feb., 1621 Place of Birth : Shivneri Fort Maharashtra Spouse : Soyarabai Putalabai Died : 3rd April 1680 S h i va j i Bhonsle. As one of the most famous D.O.B. he was known for his courage who fought against the Mughal rule single handedly. Shivaji was trained by Dadoji Konddeo. He soon became a great warrior and a skilled horserider. He was also trained in martal arts. He built many forts and formed a force of 1,00,000 soldiers. He was one of the most aggressive king of his time. Chhatrapati is famous for his courage to challenge the Mughal Empire ruled by Aurangzed tried 10 defeat Shivaji but didnot succeed much because of leadership of Shivaji. Shivaji died on April 3 due to severe illness at the age of 52.
